I'm not one for the covers either ... Neil's voice is intrinsically PSB and hence hard for me at least to disassociate his vocals with any cover.

But haven't they performed the song twice already for the Brits over the years, including the historic collaboration with Brandon Flowers and Her Grace, the Duchess of GaGa?

It does say something quite special that a song can be used at an award show like the Brits three times over five decades...

I’m not sure it has. I think their BRITs performances have been:

It is rather amazing that 35 year old song is topping the charts.

That has only happened a handful of times, and usually the group or person has to be long dead or broke up.

It seems to me PSB has now eclipsed legendary status and are now mythical, joining the ranks of Elvis, the Beatles and a handful of others whose music have transcended five decades.

Haven’t they always said that they want to write music more than perform it? Writing songs for others, or having others perform their songs, has always been something they wanted to happen. Pet shop boys as a songwriting team rather than an act was what they were expecting to have to fall back on after their imperial phase… but they’ve never really gone down the dumper, so keep on doing both. Mostly because we keep buying singles and selling out venues for them.

Listened first on Spotify, wasn’t keen, but them saw the video and everything made sense… combining the ‘at the piano’ contemplation with full on banging with lasers… love it.

Some of the PSB songs are ones that Neil wrote in the 70's so I'd say six decades. I'm stil waiting for Neil's singer/songwriter album. Telephone blues, A man on the television, Don Juan, Nothing has been proved... and of course the 1983 Camden basement album the the 1984 New York/Bobby O album.

Does anyone else think it's bizarre that It's a Sin is now associated with AIDS because of the TV show when there are obviously plenty of songs in their discography that are actually more explicitly about it? To me, it's always been about Catholicism; obviously Neil is writing from the perspective of a gay man who is told his very existence is sinful, but I've never associated it with AIDS at all, though there are resonances such as the idea of AIDS as a 'gay plague' sent as punishment by a vengeful God.

A bit like the PSB cover of Go West being associated with AIDS, even though I'm sure die hard Village People fans think differently.

Hey, it's Elton John, a legend, any performance of his is top notch. And the dude is 74 years old and been through some wild shit! Take it easy on him.
But, I was also expecting a curtain drop and the appearance of two non moving objects, two pop master gentlemen.

That was a great performance and staging. And yes, a reveal of Neil and Chris towards the end of the song would had been the icing on the cake.

It was a shame we didn't get to see the Pets but I feel then did the right thing by leaving this "project" more to Olly... and as a plus great that they have a production credit and clearly Pete G was running the music.

It's interesting that it was pre-recorded and shown as a film on the screen at the actual Brits...
