nickname has a very limited idea of what represents 'good', 'commercial' PSB. He's trapped in the 1987 imperial phase and the new album will be yet another disappointment to him. :(
In fact, we are many people disappointed but they are not part of the forum anymore because they are not fans of the current PSB because the quality of their songs are not as good as the ones from that period.

PSB even know the new album is not going to have big tracks, so they are going to follow with the GH Tour and the legacy. Most of people want the classics and songs from the 90's and early 2000.

Let me quote Richard Pryor: "Bullshit!". Things like Fundamental, Electric and Lost are creative highpoints. The imperial phase up to Very were learning days. Don't confuse your nostalgia with music quality. In recent years PSB have diverged into classical compositions, oratories, ballet, musical, etc etc. The post-Very years have seen an immense body of work and new levels of song writing skills. This is no surprise, why would a band 5-10 years into their career be more proficient than a band with 20-40 years of experience?

I'm talking about musical terms not about the lyrics.

1) Fundamental and Yes have probably the last high quality songs (ex: The Sodom and Gomorrah Show) of their career. Really good songs with good production. The Price's era had good tracks but more pure electronic oriented and not as good as the others and the production and musical arrangements were more gimmicky and predictable. The problem with Fundamental is they didn't keep on balance the fast and the slow tracks.

2) I love the ballet, the musicals but the best tracks are on the proper albums as it should be.

3) Lost is not a creative highpoint by any mean.

You have such a simplistic attitude towards their later material. There are still so many great pop songs; all that's changed is that they're older, balder and therefore less relevant to the pop kids. I suppose an equivalent act might have focused more on writing hits for younger, sexier performers.

PSB think the best song of this era was "Vocal". It was such a amazing song Radio 2 didn't want to play it and Pop Kids wasn't really special (and this song could be played by a younger performer).

To be able to pinpoint the zeitgeist so properly with both Lost and Agenda cannot be anything but creative highpoints.

If someone can tell me a single song that would have dragged up the average of Behaviour, rather than pulling it down, then do let us know what it is.

I'll wait.

Retro. :)
Well replacing To Face The Truth with If There Was Love (a version w Neil's vocal of.course). I Want You Now as well if like more romance than politics.
To Face The Truth is my all time number one PSB track. It's a Masterpiece. A MASTERPIECE!!! It's the track I suggest when you get the usual "PeT sHoP bOyS sOnGs AlL sOuNd ThE sAmE" idiots. For me, it's the best track on their best album.
Ah come on! To Face The Truth has merely generic lyrics. Neil's lame "the only one"-lines which also appear as titles of two of their weakest tracks (on Nightlife and Hotspot). It's got some dissonant annoying sound throughout as well. If There Was Love (it it were with Neil singing) has marvellous, intricate lyrics and quotes Shakespeare. You might like To Face The Truth (I like it too) but If There Was Love is of higher quality, its threshold of originality is way higher.

Thank you! Behavior was the first PSB I ever brought home and it was "To face the truth" (and "Nervously") that sealed my newborn fanhood. TFTT remains one of my top favorites, paired maybe with "Left to my own devices", but it's impossible to single out very favorites from dozens of favorites at this point. TFTT doesn't get enough love, so I needed to chime in as well.

That being said, Results really is terrific all around and "If there was love" is always an exciting listen to me. Image

I'm talking about the music not the lyrics.

For example, the lyrics and video of "On social media" are great but the music is not a highpoint.

Listen to the instrumentals of Elysium, Electric and Hotspot and you'll realise the shiny, spotless production with lots of things going in the background, it's a delight. I'd even go as far as saying that the production is the best they've ever done.
Have a listen to Yes etc... that's a territory they never were near before in their career.

And you cannot take away the lyrics. Neil's lyrics in recent years have reached new levels. The introspective sadness on Elysium, counter that with the wickedness and esoterism on Electric and then with the political/social commentary from 2016-2023. My fandom has been reinvigorated by it and I was a deep fanatic even from before.

So basically: you've got it all wrong. Don't confuse your nostalgia with reality.

OK that's a pretty heavy confirmation bias you have going there. Honestly, why bother accumulating a case like this.
