Re: and...Disco 5!!!!
Would love if they had kept the Furthermore tracks and Sense of time for a potential Disco 5. Mix those in with all of their recent remixes too.
Something like this;
Sense of time
Purple Zone (Extended Mix)
Heart (PSB New Version)
Queen Of Ice
Insanely Alive
Being Boring (PSB New Version)
Think Of A Number
Always On My Mind (PSB New Version)
Cosmic Fringes
West End Girls
It's A Sin (PSB New Version)

Re: and...Disco 5!!!!
The only reason we got disco 3 was that release so under performed that singles three and four were cancelled. Disco 3 is basically the Here and London cancelled singles with their associated bonus tracks and remixes.glennjridge wrote: Sat 27 Apr 2024, 4:37 pm I would think disco 3 would be a fan favorite as it gave us more new songs(or maybe unreleased )I think than any of the others.

Re: and...Disco 5!!!!
So true. Disco 3 lacks an overarching theme. Disco 1 was rare extended mixes of high quality with Suburbia as a single.tottenhammattspurs wrote: Sun 28 Apr 2024, 8:32 amThe only reason we got disco 3 was that release so under performed that singles three and four were cancelled. Disc 2 was a megamix promoting Ab-fab and Yesterday. The mixes on D2 weren't of the same hig quality as on D1 but the concept was clear.
D3: a mish-mash of remixes and new tracks. No concept.
D4: a collection of PSB mixes of other artists' songs. A concept.
Regarding D2 and D3 I'm always disappointed by an artist putting the same song more than once on an album. With D2 it's almost acceptable because it's a megamix but it's still a bit tacky imo.

D3 was a mistake. They should've released the electro album instead and named it Popart.
The subsequent GH compilation would've had to have another name.
Popart (the 10 track 2003 album) would've been a great "return to form"... or perhaps it was then too early for them to attain "legacy"-status.

They're not official albums, they're more relaxed. Less need for particular themes other than what the name "disco" implies?
Disco 3 was an injection of new songs, come on!

and...Disco 5!!!!
Speaking at Friday’s Q&A, Neil took the opportunity to assess fan enthusiasm for a Disco 5, which earned a supportive cheer. He qualified that any such album would take the same format as Disco Four - ie their own remixes, primarily of other artists. He clearly had his own reservations - his perception was that Disco Four, although great in theory, had been poorly received. I think, with a bit of careful curation, Disco 5 could be a great release - looking at the timeframe since Disco Four, there’s certainly loads to go at.
Unheard unreleased remixes:
Noel Gallagher - Think Of A Number (Timeless Classic 12-Inch Remix)
Unreleased remixes:
MGMT - Kids (PSB Synthpop Mix)
The Hidden Cameras - Colour Of A Man (Pet Shop Boys Organic Mix)
Released remixes that are unavailable on streaming:
Lady Gaga - Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say) (Pet Shop Boys Extended Mix)
Claptone - Queen Of Ice (Pet Shop Boys Extended Mix)
Other mixes done for other artists since Disco Four:
Sam Taylor-Wood - I’m In Love With A German Film Star (PSB Symphonic Mix)
Paul Weller - Cosmic Fringes (Pet Shop Boys Triad Mix)
Soft Cell • Pet Shop Boys - Purple Zone (Extended Mix)
Wolfgang Tillmans - Insanely Alive (PSB Maxi Mix)
Sleaford Mods - West End Girls (Pet Shop Boys Remix)
Existing PSB remixes of their own material that haven’t had a full release:
Pet Shop Boys - Fluorescent (Indio Mix)
Other more widely available PSB remixes from the same time frame:
Pet Shop Boys - Love etc. (Pet Shop Boys Sex Mix)
Pet Shop Boys - Did You See Me Coming? (PSB Possibly More Mix)
Pet Shop Boys - Leaving (Believe In PSB Remix)
Pet Shop Boys - The Pop Kids (PSB Deep Dub)
Pet Shop Boys (feat. Years & Years) - Dreamland (PSB Remix)
“Lost singles” they could potentially remix specifically for Disco 5:
All over the world
The way it used to be
A face like that
Burn
Will-o-the-wisp
Happy people
Plus a great opportunity to plug the missing Loneliness remix gap.

Re: and...Disco 5!!!!
This one is such a mystery. I know the timing was all wrong for release at the time, but I also wonder if MGMT were fed up with the song and asked to not proceed? The PSB mix is very strong!
Oh yes please! Can't imagine them beating the original, but an old fashioned extended mix would be tops.

Re: and...Disco 5!!!!
Now that their own "new versions" were released on Furthermore (that was my bet for Disco 5, a CD with their own remixes/versions of their classics) I have no idea of what will be the main concept behind it.
It was different for each of the previous Disco releases... so maybe a mixed bag of all of them now?
My dream tracklisting would be a compilation of rare unreleased mixes from all their career, since the first day to the most recent times, plus some of the early demos... although I think it's not going to go that way...

Re: and...Disco 5!!!!
From memory, MGMT wanted PSB to mix their latest single, but Neil and Chris wanted to remix Kids instead. They remixed it without access to the stems… and sent it to the record label who opted not to release it. Neil “leaked” it via the official site instead.jasonjohn wrote:This one is such a mystery. Re: and...Disco 5!!!!
Thanks Dog! I actually rate MGMT (especially after they rejected their own initial success). Their more recent track "Little Dark Age" is an interesting pop song. Would love PSB to release something official

Judging the sound of the PSB mixes, it wouldn't have been possible to make them without having access to the stems...Dog wrote: Sun 28 Apr 2024, 8:55 pm ...

I still say that the DISCO series would be the ideal opportunity to release their demos of songs that they did for other people such as Diddly Squat, All Or Nothing, A Little
Black Dress maybe some of the Liza and Dusty tracks, MUSIK tracks?
