Re: Closer to Heaven - London 2024
I saw it on Sunday and am contemplating going again next week.
Whilst not the greatest musical ever (not the worst by a long shot either), when I was watching it, I couldn’t help thinking that it would make a really good 3 part Netflix or Amazon Prime series. It would help flesh out some of the characters.

''Due to Frances Ruffelle fracturing her ankle, the role of Billie Trix will now be played by Jenna Lee James.''
I attended on Thursday and Jenna Lee was superb, she'd taken on the role with two days' notice and still looking at a tablet in the second half but it didn't detract from the evening.
If you are hesitating go and see this show!!!

I'm attending too. I'll be sporting glasses and black sparkly top - probably sitting at one of the tables in the auditorium.

Re: Closer to Heaven - London 2024
AAAAAAHHHHHH, that was so much fun!!!! I didn't know what Frances has been taking for that fractured ankle but she was back and high kicking her way through the show! I wasn’t sure what to expect based on the OST alone but now I've seen it, it makes a lot more sense obviously, and the link parts are pretty funny. The cast were really into it, maybe in part because they had a lot of friends in the audience tonight, but they worked the crowd well.
And Sandy and Meebabi (and friends), it was lovely to meet you and talk (Pet) Shop! Have fun at the ROH!

It was so great to meet you as well! I thought the show was a lot of fun- we had fantastic seats. I feel very fortunate to have been able to see this, I honestly never thought I’d have the opportunity to.petshopgrrl wrote: Mon 22 Jul 2024, 11:52 pm AAAAAAHHHHHH, that was so much fun!!!! I was thrilled that Frances was back and as I probably told you, it was my best experience of seeing this production. The cast have got the balance right between the dangerous pushing of the envelope, the pathos and the comedy in my opinion. Top night!!!

Re: Closer to Heaven - London 2024
Never got the hate for this musical or its soundtrack. Saw it twice (the original run and the pre-covid Above the Stag version) and I find it a very entertaining and engaging musical, very funny too, and I love (most of) the songs. The story is a cliché but name one musical that isn't.
Would definately go this new installment if I were in London now.
Apparently there is also some commercial success for this musical. I mean it's a small musical of course, but the other smaller artist musicals (Boy George's Taboo for instance) were reprised less frequently if I'm correct, and not recently. But Taboo does have two cast recordings.
