Re: The Loving Kind
Am I allowed to like both?!
I LOVE the Girls Aloud version, and in fact it is tighter than the PSB version. You can hear the pop straps keeping it on the straight and narrow. But the PSB version is fantastic, with some additional bits.
Perhaps because I'm used to the Girls Aloud version the PSB version feels a little flabby, but I can sort of see why Chris vetoed it, although it's better than Building a wall, perhaps it's too similar to More than a dream
Still - I'm very pleased this made it out the vaults, even if both Yes and Elysium are lighter on new material, they are v worthy releases.

Re: The Loving Kind
The Loving Kind wasn’t on the setlist of the opening night of Girls Aloud’s comeback tour. I seem to recall years ago, hearing that they don’t like the song, and didn’t want it to be a single. Pretty much all their top 10 hits are included, so I think there might be some truth in this.

I usually like any PSB version over any version of their tracks but this time Girls Aloud version is fantastic; there is no comparison there.

Re: The Loving Kind
I agree. I would love someone to take Neil’s vocals from the “monitor mix” and put them on top of the Girls Aloud version, perhaps even with some of the girl’s vocals here and there to enrich the sound.PSBForTheMasses wrote: Sun 19 May 2024, 8:10 pm I usually like any PSB version over any version of their tracks but this time Girls Aloud version is fantastic; there is no comparison there.

The “Girls” don’t like it. Nadine even thinks it was written by “Duran Duran or someone”. I mean, I know you weren’t recruited for your brain power but still. That comment alone has made me go off them.

Nice! BTW, I can’t understand why Olly’s vocals on Dreamland are so bad - he usually sounds good on records and quite often in live situations as well, as shown in this video, but on Dreamland he sounds so strange.

Re: The Loving Kind
To my American ears the phrasing of the title and the chorus "I'm not the loving kind" mean something different, it implies the person is the type of person who is a cold fish and doesnt have the ability to love someone.
when the song appears to be about someone lamenting they arent loveable by someone else.

Re: The Loving Kind
Sometimes
I watch you when you’re sleeping
I wonder what you’re feeling
both wide awake and dreaming
of yesterday
I want you
to kiss away the tension
the issues never mentioned
with all the best intentions
but you turn away
Oh baby if you find
I’m not the loving kind
I’ll buy you flowers
I’ll pour you wine
do anything
to change your mind
I know you may be disinclined
to find the love we’ve left behind
so kiss me then make up your mind
I’m not the loving kind
I’d do anything
Sing the songs that lovers sing
if I could change your mind
Am I not the loving kind?
Somewhere on a Monday morning
in the rush hour of another day
Standing on a crowded platform
carelessly we lost our way
Sometimes
I watch you when you’re sleeping
I wonder what you’re feeling
both wide awake and dreaming
of yesterday
Oh baby if you find
(Whatever happened?)
I’m not the loving kind
I’ll buy you flowers
I’ll pour you wine
(Whatever happened?)
do anything to change your mind
I know you may be disinclined
(Whatever happened?)
to find the love we’ve left behind
but kiss me then make up your mind
(Whatever happened?)
I’m not the loving kind
I’m not the loving kind
I’m not the loving kind
It seems that the other party in the song is not feeling very loving and the narrator is trying or hoping to be extra loving to make up for a spat, the narrator just needs a make-up kiss from the other party!
