I was really surprised the short version of 'Way Through The Woods' wasn't on 'Elysium' Further Listening. Was an obvious one to add on there, as it met all their criteria.

I, for one, am disappointed by this inclusion on new london boy. Similarly, while I enjoy the re-release of Relentless, the exclusivity of these tracks is what I found appealing. Several years ago something about the availability of new items overwhelmed me and I stopped buying new releases. It was the thrill of the chase that I was missing and I subsequently filled in the gaps in my collection over the next few years.. And then ultra rarities were findable with the development of the emerging WWW. I thought back to earlier times when if one didn't actually know someone who actually had a physical record or cassette, then it just wasn't possible to listen to the track. So I'll enjoy the Japanese edition of nonetheless and appreciate that it has an OBI strip, the cardboard sleeves are slightly larger with a better texture and print quality. Until another version is announced.

The thrill of the chase hasn't been possible for at least 15 years, thanks to YouTube, etc. I can imagine a treasure-hunter being far more annoyed in 1991 when both BSNYG and Miserablism became the sole b-sides of their respective singles; on the other hand at least you'd have the "non-existent" 9 minute version of This must be the place I waited years to leave and a lovely velvet box. This time we knew we'd be able to hear CAHEB on YouTube and within a few days we did, so on the one hand it didn't need to be released outside Japan but then again, why deny the majority a proper release?

Does anyone else have (semi-regular) dreams of going into a record store and finding an old PSB release with unknown b-sides? I usually wake up before I've heard them, of course (and am fairly convinced they're just bootlegs, anyway)...

Ooh but that velvet box is lovely....and soooo very velvety! It picks up other fuzz though so probably needs a good brush.

I think I lean more toward the idea of releasing it to the majority. The Relentless release last year was absolutely flippin' amazing, so even with my original CD and 12" versions, I wasn't about to pass it up, and am glad that others have the opportunity to get it.

The Very/Relentless bubblepack was a "lightning in a bottle" moment. For those of us who were there when it happened, that's great, but I agree with you, why deny everyone who wasn't there (and maybe weren't even born yet!) the opportunity to own these masterpieces in some format other than a dodgy YouTube channel.

The Monday releases were insane. I'd clock off work at lunchtime and take a 20 minute drive to Solihull town centre to scope the record shops for the new releases. I'd be there literally 10-15 minutes picking up what I went for, then back to work within the hour.

Picking stuff up on release day also opened up the possibility of finding a mispress that would subsequently get removed from the shelves. I have a New Order CD of "Spooky" which has completely the wrong tracks on it - I remember vividly I unwittingly picked it up on a Monday release day reccy!

Nowadays you get a phone notification, open up Apple Music and it's there - all within 10 seconds and not having to leave your desk. Sad times (or just different times?)

Exact same story for me with the Domino dancing remixes - except I was in Stratford Upon Avon - not a million miles away from Brum though!

I think there must have been a extra delivery of those Domino dancing remix vinyls in the Midlands !

I was at an indoor market in Birmingham, back in '88, and there was a tiny record stall in there, and they had the remix 12", just one copy sitting at the front of one of the racks.

I didn't even know that they had released it as a second 12". It had a small food style price label in the top right hand corner on the front, and the stall owner had hand written in blue ink 'Remix £7' (I only earnt £50 a week !). I was so excited !! Bought it without hesitation, took it home and played the Domino dancing Base Remix, and Demo version of Don Juan on repeat.

I've never taken that price sticker off the front, and even now when I look at it, I am instantly transported back to being at that stall.

I get uk or even Europe citizens missing those old times where you went to the record store and get the 12", but for us in the rest of the world that was awful.
I prefer these days a thousand times, even when we have to wait over a month for a cd or a vinyl delivered. We would never ever ever get those releases here at the record stores, at least not all of them.
Some people with contacts or friends/family living abroad might get them, but the rest of us were fuxxed.
And in Argentina we're kind of lucky compared to the rest of Latinamerica cause we get some of them released. But imagine you're living in Peru or Ecuador, to name a couple. You'd never get a proper release at a record store these days.
