All The Young Dudes / West End Girls with the Manchester Camerata - next single?
Since "New London Boy" was considered the fifth single, would All The Young Dudes / West End Girls with the Manchester Camerata be considered the sixth single since it's available for streaming with two different versions? I mean, it also has unique artwork.
OR....
Since "New London Boy" was essentially a double A side single with "All The Young Dudes", would CD 1 be considered single 5a and CD 2 single 5b, making "All The Young Dudes / West End Girls" single 5c?

It's a 'mix' of All the young dudes, part of the 5th single package.

Just another part of the quite superb fifth single package - 11 tracks in total. If any of us predicted this a year ago we'd have been sent off to the funny farm. 2024 has - purely by the numbers - been the best year of their career and who'd have imagined at this stage?

Greetings,
Retro.
I think it's part of the same package. A digital single containing two new mixes of the AA-side. It's fundamentally no different to those Beatport exclusive mixes, except it's not quite so "limited".trafaelwyr wrote: Tue 12 Nov 2024, 9:35 pm Since "New London Boy" was considered the fifth single, would All The Young Dudes / West End Girls with the Manchester Camerata be considered the sixth single since it's available for streaming with two different versions? The most significant question is whether 'All The Young Dudes' would be considered enough of a single for inclusion on an updated 'SMASH', amended to include the 'Nonetheless' singles. If 'How Can You Expect To Be Taken Seriously?' is anything to go by, it wouldn't. So it would be one of odd "singles" that is neither a full A-side nor a B-side. Schrödinger's single!

I suspect they’d be more likely to include Dudes and not New London Boy, and post-rationalise that New London Boy wasn’t included because “Dudes got all the airplay”.TwizzleUK wrote:The most significant question is whether 'All The Young Dudes' would be considered enough of a single for inclusion on an updated 'SMASH', amended to include the 'Nonetheless' singles. Could it be a physical CD freebie with Annually 2025?trafaelwyr wrote: Tue 12 Nov 2024, 9:35 pm Since "New London Boy" was considered the fifth single, would All The Young Dudes / West End Girls with the Manchester Camerata be considered the sixth single since it's available for streaming with two different versions? Greetings,
Another reason to consider it part of the same singles package is the artwork.
Same colour/styled font, and the same visual recourse to "young dudes" - this time those very same "young dudes" around the time that West-End Girls was released.

It‘s a Suburbia promotional photo.retrofuturist wrote: Thu 14 Nov 2024, 6:09 am … this time those very same "young dudes" around the time that West-End Girls was released.

Greetings,
- when they themselves were in LA in 1986 for the MTV Video Music Awards
- from the album/era the song is in medley with.
... and quite possibly both. (Did they perform West End Girls at the MTV Awards in 1986?)
Unless anyone's heard a more official explanation on why they otherwise "randomly" picked a 38 year old photo.
Retro.
Yes. I believe that's an intentional visual connection, with them as "Young Dudes" either:zukunft wrote: Thu 14 Nov 2024, 7:12 amIt‘s a Suburbia promotional photo.retrofuturist wrote: Thu 14 Nov 2024, 6:09 am … this time those very same "young dudes" around the time that West-End Girls was released.

Of course, the photo comes from the era they were young dudes and went to MTV. You can watch they wore the same clothes.

I wondered this. Reckon this is really likely. Firstly, it'll be something extra to bundle with the book. Secondly it'll keep Neil and Chris in their ongoing habit of releasing most of their singles on CD.petshopgrrl wrote: Wed 13 Nov 2024, 11:57 pmCould it be a physical CD freebie with Annually 2025?trafaelwyr wrote: Tue 12 Nov 2024, 9:35 pm Since "New London Boy" was considered the fifth single, would All The Young Dudes / West End Girls with the Manchester Camerata be considered the sixth single since it's available for streaming with two different versions? Wasn’t too impressed at all with them tagging West End Girls onto All The Young Dudes as a single !?!?

It's possible, but I'm thinking this falls more into the Suburbia (Arthur Baker mixes) bucket... i.e. songs that just happened to come about in recorded digital form as a by-product of something else, which the boys figured was worthy of getting a minimal-fuss, fan-oriented digital release.TwizzleUK wrote: Thu 14 Nov 2024, 12:33 pmI wondered this.
