Can't imagine Mark and Lard and their parody songs on R1 at 10pm these days, their show was how I got into so much of my favourite music, I just used to have a tape in the deck with play, record and pause all pressed down and I would lift the pause button if I liked the sound of something. People keep talking about having a “hit” etc. but can anyone name a song that has been number one in the last 5 years? I can’t.

The charts aren’t really relevant anymore. A better measure of success is appearing on a Spotify recommended (but this costs ££) or as a TikTok soundtrack.

I’m happy having the boys carrying on doing their thing - making amazing records, sumptuous packaging and great promo and performances. We are so lucky.

Chart rules or some other nonsense, no doubt. I struggle to understand the difference between the Sales chart, Physical Sales chart, and the actual chart, so you're asking the wrong person to work out the intricacies of eligibility. These things are artificial constructs to moderate the overwhelming impact of streaming, the VAR of pop music.
