Also, seeing as I've already gone way out into the left field, the Abrahamic religions are not the only faith traditions that have a set of stories/guidelines which encourage people to live and act in certain ways in order to ensure a better functioning 'civilisation', but in those communities where the tradition was oral rather than written/recorded, we in the Western world just don't know them so well. There are plenty of parallels between Biblical parables and stories told by, for example, First Nations people in the country now called the USA, but instead of having assigned authors, they are presented through 'raven' or 'bear' and have been passed down through generations via word of mouth rather than in texts.

I do think I prefer it when their music speaks to their political views. Back in the day I don't think either one of them would have been seen dead at a rally like this, but they would probably have recorded some belter of an album track instead.

Sure, they still do that, to some extent, but still...

I do think the world needs to wake up - I wouldn't necessarily tar everyone with the same brush, but I don't really trust any politician of any persuasion these days. Some are maybe just a little more headline making than others, but doesn't make them any less concerning for the world at large.

Neil & Chris performed at Before The Act in June 1988. It really doesn't get more political than that (an anti-Section 28).

Personally, I happen to agree with Neil and Chris. But even if I didn't (I don't agree with Gilbert & George, generally) it wouldn't stop me either me enjoying their art or them being entitled to express themselves.

That's a concert, not a public rally or protest. If I recall correctly Neil has marched on other occasions though in more recent times. Back in the 80s though I think artists were more inclined to protest through their art.

I may not have been scrutinizing every single post here, but is anyone actually saying that?

To me it seems more like a transition from low-key anti-establishment sentiment, to being high-visibility pro-establishment luvvies... which is somewhat unexpected given that they were consistently anti-establishment from their outset until at least about 2009.

The shift pretty much coincides both with them being regarded as "national treasures" rather than subversive outsiders, and with the rise of the societal phenomena politely known as "Identity Marxism" (i.e. the adoption of identity politics by Neo-Marxism).
