Re: Pet Shop Boys remix Primal Scream
Greetings Dog,
Thanks for the heads up!
It's very busy and chaotic - certainly not one of the Pet Shop Boys' "plodding" remix efforts. I'm not quite sure what to make of it after first listen.

Was this a Bobby Gillespie quote? I’d remembered it as such but can’t find it online at all… he’s obviously a fan - he chose It’s a sin on Radio 2’s Tracks Of My Tears in 2021, and as mentioned in an article in Literally 33 he sent Neil and Chris 12” copies of his new single (the Andy Weatherall remix of Uptown) via Katy England, his stylist wife.Patrick Bateman wrote:I'd rather be a dead Sex Pistol than a live Pet Shop Boy.

Here’s another nice one, from Richey Edwards of Manic Street Preachers: “The Pet Shop Boys make the worst kind of English pop, like when you’re walking home from the pub and you’re down on your knees staring into a pile of your own sick, that’s how they always make me feel.”

Pet Shop Boys share acid house-inspired remix of Primal Scream’s ‘Innocent Money’ with Neil Tennant’s vocals
“One of THE iconic British pop voices. Truly honoured!” said Bobby Gillespie
Pet Shop Boys have shared a new remix of the Primal Scream track ‘Innocent Money’, featuring Neil Tennant on vocals.
The release comes as part of the ongoing ‘Come Ahead’ remix project – which sees Primal Scream share re-imagined versions of each song from their latest album.
The latest addition tackles the ‘Innocent Money’ track, and sees iconic band Pet Shop Boys put their own distinctive mark on the song, complete with Neil Tennant’s signature vocals. Check it out below to hear the Chicago-influenced acid house charm it puts on the original.
“When we were discussing possible remixers for the ‘Come Ahead’ album with our producer David Holmes I had a gut feeling that asking the Pet Shop Boys to remix ‘Innocent Money’ might be a good idea,” said Bobby Gillespie.
“I felt that the song’s marriage of a socially conscious lyric sung over an ecstatic, discofied string-laden stomping rhythm track might appeal to Neil and Chris’s sense of pop aesthetics. An added and unexpected fabulous bonus was that Neil sang on it and I get to duet with him – Neil, of course, having one of THE iconic British pop voices. Truly honoured!”
The remix of ‘Innocent Money’ comes following the Tim Goldsworthy remix of both ‘Ready To Go Home’ and ‘Love Ain’t Enough’, the Black Science Orchestra spin on ‘Love Insurrection, and Terry Farley and Wade Teo’s white label remix of ‘Ready To Go Home‘.

It's....ummm...OK. Seems like the kind of thing Neil and Chris can knock off in their sleep.
Got a nice retro House vibe (as noted in the blurb), but pretty forgettable overall.

I enjoy it's chaosity.
I wish they would ditch the snare drum rolls now though.

I recall Chris mentioned in an interview or somewhere recently that when they remix a song for someone else, "you always get a Neil vocal, whether you want it or not ." Or words to that effect .
There is beauty in ugliness and ugliness in beauty.
