Was this a Bobby Gillespie quote? I’d remembered it as such but can’t find it online at all… he’s obviously a fan - he chose It’s a sin on Radio 2’s Tracks Of My Tears in 2021, and as mentioned in an article in Literally 33 he sent Neil and Chris 12” copies of his new single (the Andy Weatherall remix of Uptown) via Katy England, his stylist wife.
It's definitely out there - I juuuuuust saw it this week in an old issue of Number One magazine. Neil was asked about the meanest thing someone had said about the Pet Shop Boys. I was browsing old issues and downloading PSB articles and decided not to save that comment because it was too bitchy and OF COURSE now I need it... In case anyone's feeling brave, it's under this tree somewhere:

Given how chaotic the original track is, they've done a nice job of paring it down, shortening it and giving it a bit more room to breathe. I like it overall - it grooves along at my resonant frequency. The tempo and added vocals are kinda their calling card, aren't they? I can imagine mixing this into the Cosmic Fringes Triad Mix. But yeah, the snare fills... Chris, you're busted - time to break out PRESET NUMBER TWO!

Golly, what an amazing archive. Loads to wade through there. I might keep dipping in. Thanks for confirming and sharing anyway.

Yeah, it's a trip! It's owned by the Smash Hits Remembered guy. Go up another level to his collections and find a bunch of other titles too, although not in quite the same detail.

These guys crack me up.

It's an alright remix. An actual reimagining of the song rather than a lazily adding of blips-and-blops like most DJ remixes are these days. So in that sense they did well. Just unsure why this song was chosen.

Bobby Gillespie:
“I felt that the song’s marriage of a socially conscious lyric sung over an ecstatic, discofied string-laden stomping rhythm track might appeal to Neil and Chris’s sense of pop aesthetics. An added and unexpected fabulous bonus was that Neil sang on it and I get to duet with him – Neil, of course, having one of THE iconic British pop voices. Truly honoured!”

There isn’t a remix album. Although if you ask google, its AI response hallucinates that there is.

Well it's a remix project due to cover every track from the album, so in theory it COULD be an album too!

There is not now.
There will be in the future.

Unless they (Primal Scream) change their minds.
