New PSB remix of Tina Turner

I've had a listen a few more times and I've decided that this is absolutely brilliant. Best thing I've heard all year. I've already listened to it more times than ploddy old Controversial.

I found the time to listen to the full track and I am sorry to say that it is hiddeous. I had listened to the original TT track a couple of times and as I said earlier, it's not a hidden gem, but the song structure kind of stuck with me. This remix does nothing to improve it. It's also not a PSB signature remix. IMO it's a bit odd to use a mainstream artist song and alter it this way: out of tune, out of sync, reducing Tina's voice to screeches, where to start?

The Hidden Cameras remix is by far superior (if not very memorable either).

Tina and the Boys is not a good combination. I found Confidential also a very dull track (in both her and the demo version) and it was also not what Tina expected and hoped for, which I fully understand. A PSB stomper at the time would have worked much better for Tina.

She had Whatever You Want with Trevor Horn as a stomper. I think Confidential is a beautiful track which is perfect for her voice. You can hear it's PSB from the first note but Tina owns the track.

The remix... it's the first time they made a remix that doesn't resemble the original and that's really odd.

The 1991 remix of Nightbush city limits from her greatest hits album had a similiar feel to it. I suspect this was an attempt to restyle another song in the same package. There are better songs Chris could enhance with the signature Psb treatment: Foreign affair and Afterglow.

Have given both remixes a few listens now. I really like the Hidden Cameras one - it is a bit PSB-by numbers, but still a very solid remix, with a nice groove and some lovely synth layers.

With the TT remix, though, I don't know what they were thinking. As an instrumental it would be a nice enough curio on a Further Listening disc (Neil: "You sent this to me in lockdown, Chris, but I couldn't think of any lyrics"; Chris: "I don't remember this at all"), and I do actually really like the chords, particularly with the synth melody towards the end. But the vocals and backing vocals seem to be in a different, clashing key, and aren't always in time. I guess it's intentional, but it's a weird choice. Got us talking, though.

I would be curious to hear a 2025 PSB remix of this track given this is where it all started with Bobby O's first release back in 1982, and from where PSB's early sound obviously originates from. I guess it's a coincidence that the two tracks almost share the same title.

I don’t think it is a coincidence. As I posted further up, we know that Pet Shop Boys originally wanted to record Bobby O’s Try It (I’m In Love With A Married Man) with Tina, but she declined. I suspect Neil and Chris saw raw disco potential in her, maybe a side of her voice and music that hadn’t as yet explored. Sleaze, basically. I think this new remix is Neil and Chris finally getting to realise that vision. Yes it’s rough in places, but weren’t all Bobby O productions? It’s the sound of rock n roll Tina being dragged into some seedy underground club.
