Not strictly true. The link provided is to a user's login to Warner's music sync service, providing licensed music for TV, film, advert, video game use etc. I presume this has been available for quite a while.

I don't really recognise it either.
I believe I have a musical ear where I'll recognise songs within a second. It happens when I watch the television performances of PSB and it's on playback, you can tell instantly it's exactly the same as the record.
The percussion sounds different in this mix to me.

It was presumed the WE​G instrumental is an unofficial mix made from the multitracks.
But seeing it now on an official resource bodes differently.
Maybe it's still a lesser official version mixed up from the multitracks. Opposed to a studio produced version simply stripped off it's vocals.

There are no other mixes of West End girls having that length (roughly 6 min) so I really wonder where it comes from.

It sounds like the original single/album version, but playing right to the end without a fade out. But with the hi-hats and kick drum missing from the intro.

Wonderful link that is, with tons of great 80's instrumentals!!!

If you listen carefully to the West End Girs version, you´ll find that it´s the same version they used, heavily edited, for the SMASH! Bluray menu: the intro and outro are exactyly the same as on the Bluray version.
The ending is also the same as on their 1986 MTV awards performance, so it´s obviously a (previously unheard) full-lenght backing track they had for possible live performances and TV presentations.

Plus, the real lenght of that instrumental is 5:56 (if you remove the dead silence at the star and end of the track) not 6:07.

I bet it´s the same version included on this very rare and exclusive CD:

the industry tracks have been going on for awhile, but most are really
hard to come by.

thanks to the original users account, that gave us access to these tracks.

Isn't it possible with modern tech to de-vocalise songs? I've seen examples of it on YouTube by fans uploading songs of their favourite groups so you can sing along to the instrumentals.

It's not perfect. I used it for my Nirvana/Pet Shop Boys mashup and there's some slight distortion here and there. But by putting the other vocals over the music, these artefacts are kinda "blurred"

I've been banging out George Michael Ai's, and quite frankly I have tried alot of these programs and it seems to slightly ruin the track in removing the vocals. maybe some are better than others, I have tried a bunch, they seem to do the same basically.
theres sort of a reverby sounding....howling...that occurs. nothing beats the official instrumentals. I will check out the ultimate program. thanks

there is a multi-stage process that removes them.

you have to done one pass with the basic one,

then use another method to remove artifacts,

and another pass to do the fine tuning.


you can get very professional results using these.
