I can sort of understand it. This was right after their Release era. Although the idea of scaling things down wasn't a bad idea, I believe they didn't choose the best material for Release. Anyway, Release was not a big success. Now with a GH on the way, PSB needed a hit song. I wasn't until a few years later they understood that they were "(inter)national treasure" i e they don't need another hit song.
