I think it's more accurate to say that Neil hated the VP's recording of Go West. Some of this is getting distorted the more it's reported!

Subscription needed. Could you copy and paste it here?
The article that I posted is from September 2023, that is, before the lawsuit. The author was probably not aware of the present dispute when he said "Neil hated..."...
Now it wants me to subscribe. It's from 2012 and is primary source for the quote about Neil hating the track, he didn't say he hated the Village People!

See my screenshot above for interesting stuff on Neil's thoughts on YMCA!
Id like a reference for when Neil spoke so openly about his sex life...I think its made up

It's obviously fake - unsourced and in any event, Neil doesn't talk like that.

No kidding - at this rate it might never see the light of day. I'd love to have a copy too, but I'm guess not too many snuck out.

So that's why they said it was delayed until early 2026. Rather than keep fighting the case, they just opted to repress all the discs without it - causing the delay whilst remanufacturing them all. Quite a loss to them - but maybe Parlophone have soaked up some of the costs? Who knows?

Wonder if they'll ever play the song again live or re-release any studio versions of it again?

I wouldn't be surprised if Go West quietly slips under the carpet, never to be seen again, no comments or question please. Personally, I won't miss it - I've never been a big fan of VP-style cheese.

I think a bunch of DVDs with GW went out as press kits. Mojo's review of it went out in May so they obviously didn't get the memo about the release hold.

https://www.mojo4music.com/articles/new ... -reviewed/

At this point, it's probably more cost-effective to junk the existing copies and reprint, rather than delay further and slug through the American courts and empower the Willises. The bridge has been burned.
For your own good, call me tonight.

I won't miss it from the setlist either. Good for it's time (and the ending part is banging) but it's a bit tired and overplayed now. Not sure it will "go quietly" though!

The withdrawn release is available online if you know where to look. Anyone who wants the full tracklist in their digital collection can have it without too much trouble.

Maybe Grok should also be sued … here is his understanding about the meaning of Go West :
Ah, got it! You're asking about **"Go West"** by the **Village People**—their 1979 disco hit (later covered by Pet Shop Boys in 1993). Here's a clear breakdown of its **meaning**, **lyrics**, **history**, and **cultural significance**.

---

### **1. Surface-Level Meaning: A Call to Adventure & Freedom**
On the surface, **"Go West"** is an upbeat anthem about **leaving behind a tough life in the East and heading to the American West** for a fresh start.

- **Key lyrics**:
> *"Together we will go our way*
> *Together we will leave someday*
> *Together your hand in mine*
> *Together we will make our plans*
>
> *Go west, life is peaceful there*
> *Go west, lots of open air*
> *Go west, to begin life new*
> *Go west, this is what we'll do!"*

- It paints the **American West** (especially California) as a **land of opportunity**, sunshine, freedom, and new beginnings—echoing the 19th-century **"Go West, young man"** frontier spirit (a phrase popularized by Horace Greeley in 1865).

- The song celebrates **community**, **hope**, and **starting over** with friends or loved ones.

---

### **2. Deeper Meaning: A Gay Liberation Anthem (Coded Message)**
Like much of Village People’s music, **"Go West" has a strong LGBTQ+ subtext**.

- In the 1970s, **San Francisco** (in the West) was the **epicenter of the gay rights movement**—especially after the 1969 Stonewall riots sparked activism nationwide.
- For many gay men (especially in conservative Eastern or Midwestern towns), **"going west"** meant:
- Escaping homophobia, family rejection, or small-town judgment.
- Moving to **San Francisco or Los Angeles**, where gay communities were thriving (Castro District, West Hollywood, etc.).
- Finding **acceptance, love, and freedom to live openly**.

> So **"Go west, where the skies are blue"** = *Go to a place where you can be yourself.*

- The repeated line **"Together we will live each day / Together we will love our way"** is a **direct nod to queer solidarity and chosen family**—core themes in gay culture.

---

### **3. Historical & Musical Context**
- **Written by**: Jacques Morali, Henri Belolo, and **Victor Willis** (the cop in Village People).
- **Released**: 1979 on the album *Go West*.
- **Style**: Pure disco—horn stabs, handclaps, soaring vocals, and a chant-along chorus.
- The **Village People** were openly marketed to gay audiences, with each member in a **gay fantasy archetype** (cop, construction worker, cowboy, etc.).

---

### **4. Pet Shop Boys Cover (1993) – A Post-AIDS Tribute**
The **Pet Shop Boys** (a British synth-pop duo who are openly gay) covered "Go West" in 1993—and made the **gay subtext explicit**.

- Their version was released **during the height of the AIDS crisis**.
- The music video shows **Soviet-style imagery** (red stars, statues) → symbolizing **escaping oppression** (like the fall of the Iron Curtain).
- But for many, it was a **tribute to gay men lost to AIDS**, with "Go West" as a **metaphor for heaven or liberation after death**.
- Neil Tennant (Pet Shop Boys) said:
> *"We wanted to make it a celebration of gay life… and a kind of utopian vision."*

Their version hit **#2 in the UK** and became a gay club staple.

---

### **5. Fun Fact: The "Go West" Chant**
The song’s **"Go west!"** chant is now a **global stadium anthem**—used in soccer games (especially in Europe) when a team is attacking toward the west goal. Most fans have **no idea** it started as a gay liberation song!

---

### **Summary: What "Go West" Really Means**
| Level | Meaning |
|------|--------|
| **Literal** | Move to California for a better life. |
| **Historical** | Echoes the American frontier dream. |
| **LGBTQ+ Subtext** | Flee to San Francisco to live freely as a gay person. |
| **Modern Legacy** | A symbol of hope, community, and starting over—gay or not. |

---

**TL;DR**:
**"Go West" by Village People** is a disco banger about chasing freedom in California—but **secretly**, it’s a **gay anthem** about escaping to San Francisco to live openly and build a new life with your chosen family. 🌅🏳️‍🌈

Is it me, or are most of those links not working? I could only get #1 and #5 to open directly, and #3 through the WayBack Machine.

Yeah, sorry Victor, it's gonna be hard to push that genie back inside the bottle. People are going to assign their own narrative to things and this one's got away from you now.
