I really like the comparison that Paninaro '95 is Chris' equivalent to Jesus To a Child by George Michael.

Also, no one has mentioned the tense of the lyrics has changed from ‘You, you’re my lover..etc’ to ‘You, you were my lover..’

Paninaro 95 is my favourite song of PSB. The lyrics are imo very personal to Chris & are about Pete. That whole verse is past tense. :(

It has indeed been mentioned. But the new 'rap'-lyrics in the middle give away even more and when those lyrics are placed in the forefront int the Extended mix it sort of turns the Extended mix into a song of its own, it's actually only at the very end of the track where we get the 'paninaro'-stuff.

“Paninaro 95 is my favorite PSB song. I think the lyrics are very personal about Chris and Pete. The whole verse is in the past tense.”

We don’t know for sure. Chris never talked about it. This is just fan speculation. Maybe Pete wasn’t her boyfriend at all, but someone else she broke up with at the time. Who knows.

There has been a lot of evidence put forth in support of the hypothesis that Paninaro '95 is about Chris and Pete (and therefore probably Paninaro '86 as well). If you want to suggest a different hypothesis you will need to provide the evidence for it. It's not enough to simply say "maybe" and then add some random stuff.

Okay. But then we also need proof that it's about Pete.

It's obviously about Pete. The timeline doesn't support anything else.

Yet when you listen to the 'Paninaro 95' single, the lyrics are still in the present tense.

True, I cannot hear 'were'. Or is it muffled?

The new lyrics are all in the past tense... the classic lyrics are still in the present tense (but of course can still absolutely be applied to someone who has passed). Still very moving, more than THIRTY years later.

The new lyrics made it to the website but apparently not the record though.

The new lyrics are in the extended mix, I just listened to it…

My heart is broken, and I don't wanna go home

That's not the section we're talking about. We're talking about:
You, you were my lover
You were my hope, you were my dreams, my life
On the record it's in the present tense as per the 1986 version.
