That's not the section we're talking about. We're talking about:

You, you were my lover
You were my hope, you were my dreams, my life

On the record it's in the present tense as per the 1986 version.

I get the feeling the vocals on the extended mix are from a different take than on the 7''. On the Extended mix "You, you're my..." sound more desperate than on the 7''. Or could it be because of the different musical arrangement?

Well, I’ve already said the classic lyrics are still in the present tense on the ‘95 extended remix, it’s just the new lyrics that are in the past tense.
