1976: Neil Tennant was 22 years old and 10 years away from the release of the first Pet Shop Boys album.
He was working as an editor at the British division of Marvel comics, his first job after getting a degree in History.
Here’s a photo of him in his dungarees at the Pocketeers launch

Ah, yes, Nebbo's villain origin story! Smash Hits busted his chops about this photo way back in February 1985, a mere two months before he quit Britain's Brightest Pop Mag. (Photo under the spoiler because it's on the Letters page and you'll get a faceful of Black Type.)
