Some stores do keep selling the RSD releases after the day...Gabby wrote: Fri 06 Feb 2026, 5:41 pmI'm sure RSD was originally well intentioned, but it's really not my idea of a fun time.lalolalo wrote: Fri 06 Feb 2026, 5:16 pm When you do something the wrong way sometimes is worse than not doing it at all.
In theory this sound great, but then you wake up at 6 to stand in line hours before the record store opens, only to get in and be told that the record is sold out, or "not delivered", when actually they're saving them to sell them later on eBay 10 times more expensive.
I'd love to buy a copy of 12" Hallo Spaceboy and the remixes from Electronic, and if you make sure they are only sold exclusively at those independent stores (be that physically or online), then why does it have to limited or specific to one day a year?
Stress free, and everyone wins - the artist, the record store and the purchaser.

It's Record Store, not CD Store. Record stores sell more than vinyl.negative_0ne wrote:i'm sure if there was CD store day, the lack of vinyl would
annoy a lot of people too.

Some RSD releases, the more niche ones, tend to be available for quite a while afterwards.
Something like this, you'll be lucky if it even makes it out onto the shop floor. They might as well just release it straight to eBay.

It was £21,74 for me.
But yeah, collector things...
Went to Tottenham Experience during the Obscure week, well it's a nice shop but expensive too.

Loads of copies of this in the couple of stores I went to in Dublin this morning. In fact loads of copies of most RSD stuff from what I could see. One store, Spindizzy, had actually temporarily replaced most of their normal stock with RSD releases there was that much of it.Danny C wrote: Sat 14 Feb 2026, 5:50 pm Some RSD releases, the more niche ones, tend to be available for quite a while afterwards.

I don't think anyone wanting a copy of this is going to have too much trouble buying it at face value.
Maybe the end of RSD is in sight.

Again, loads of copies of this available this morning. I don't know if everything got much bigger print runs this year or what or are we entering the same period that the video game industry went through in the early 80's.
So much unwanted product on the shelves just because someone thinks it's a good idea to release absolutely anything and everything on vinyl.

Well, in my town, people went one hour before the store opens, and the 20 copies immediatly found an owner.
I don't know how many Bowie's copies were available (much less I would say) but I found mine after the rush.
I didn't want to queue for a vinyl record. Too old for that.

I only got to Tower in Dublin at around 11.45 as I was travelling up to the city, went in, picked up 3 of the records I wanted straight away (including the Bowie 12") and was out by 12. Also got a free ice cream when I showed my receipt lol.
Then made my way over to another store, picked up the last record I wanted and was all done by 12.30.
I wonder how much of the stuff that was bought by the people queuing up early will end up on Ebay or Discogs.
