Re: Least favourite PSBs song
Greetings,
I almost said Wedding In Berlin, but then I remembered their massacre of In Private with Elton John. I can't split the two... I can just say I don't want to ever hear either of them again.
I also understand the strong dislike of Electricity and Winner, but in each instance I think it's more about them being elevated above their level to positions of unjustified prominence in the catalogue. If they were b-sides, or previously unreleased tracks on a Further Listening compilation I don't think there'd be anywhere near the hate. Electricity would have been perfectly acceptable as a b-side on Single, for example.
Retro.

Re: Least favourite PSBs song
Fascinating to see what turns people off - I would never have expected some of these!
For me, it's Winner - I don't mind the first verse but the rest of it is just so greetings card. The lyrics and the vocals (esp towards the end) are what I think makes it bad - the arrangement is fine - so the HappySad mix that everyone seems to love is no better in my book. "See the world through new eyes every day" is surely the nadir of Neil's otherwise incredible career as a lyricist.
Don't mind Wedding In Berlin at all - the way they use the wedding march is quite pretty to me and the weird, distant way it describes marriage feels very PSB. I like Decide but I've never felt a strong sense that it should have been on the album instead - it's a bit self important with its grand arrangement for a relatively slight song, I think.
Even with Winner or Disco Potential, which I'd probably have said was my least favourite before Winner came out, I find there's something buried in there that I like - there's nothing of theirs I would actively get up and skip in the context of an album.

I must disengage your recreational music.

Yes, it's hard to look past something like Wedding in Berlin. There's a fair few b-sides I don't like but that's okay - that's where you can experiment or release something from your vaults. There's no defence for chucking stuff like that on an actual studio album though. See also the likes of:
Metamorphosis
In Denial
The Night I Fell In Love
Beautiful People

Re: Least favourite PSBs song
As has been mentioned by me before, Footsteps is not my jam.
I'd take Wedding in Berlin a thousand times over that.
Surprised TSOTAS isn't mentioned but once so far...I love it but I was always given to believe it was almost universally hated.

Wedding in Berlin is an ok track imho. It is funny, but it also celebrates marriage which has been a hetero thing for a long time (as Neil sings: "Don’t matter if they’re straight or gay").
I do think it should not have been an album track though.
Sodom and Gomorrah show is a fantastic track. Especially the Buggles-esque "sun, sex, sin, death and destruction" part
