Track-by-Track: From Please to Nonetheless

The release album so far has been good.

I agree... and this track is my favourite from the album. Imagine a ten track album where they kept this standard up until the end! Alas, we know that's not what happened.

Listening with fresh ears, I Get Along sounds really warm and cruisy. I love it. The politics is totally lost on me, but I don't feel I'm enjoying it any less for that lack of context.

Needed a more appropriate video.

I think someone said it earlier that they should have gone "all in" on the real instrumentation sounds, and this song is a case in point. Could have sounded like a real Oasis banger but its a damp squib by comparison.

I like it well enough, but do feel it could have been so much more.

Peter Mandleson made three mixes in total:

His original mix was in December 1998, after failing to declare an interest-free loan from a colleague. The first remix was in January 2001, following allegations that he had improperly influenced a passport application, and the second (and final?) remix was in September 2025, when he was removed from his post as British Ambassador to the United States.

Another brilliant track, this time a single that doesn't just bend the PSB model so much as break it and reinvent it. "'It's not what you think it is," you said..." just glorious. I'd love for them to play this live. After whatever Nightlife and Closer to Heaven were, we're 2/2 now and about to hit 3/3 with the masterpiece that is Birthday Boy. The album ultimately can't sustain itself - a track list swapping out certain tracks for b-sides would have been brilliant. They really needed this to reinvent themselves.

A great song. When it first came out, I liked it less than I do now. The change in sound on Release was a bit of a struggle for me back then, especially with this second single. Now I think songs like this enrich their catalog because they move away from their usual sound, diversifying it and demonstrating and reinforcing their songwriting quality.

And yes, the album has started off very well.

So far I’m the only one here that doesn’t like it! I’m actually a bit surprised by that, I guess I assumed that everyone shared my opinion! But that’s just fun and part of what makes this thread so great, I really like reading all your opinions, and there is nothing right or wrong here

Yep, I guess it was me talking about (and getting dissed as well) having real drums on Release instead of programmed ones.
I mean, electronic music is all about creating soundscapes and the rhythm, drums, are supposed to sound.... electronic.... but you don't programme drums to sound like real drums... you just don't... then you bring in a real drummer instead.

Probably my favourite on the album. Very nice track and do like the chorus. The politics side of it is quite clever as well, maybe relevant again with Mandelson in the news recently
