For obvious reasons I hear a lot of sonic similarities between Madge's Confessions 2 and Super / Electric, anyone else get that?
Shame there wasn't a collaboration including the boys, especially as the album seems quite retrospective around the 80's and clubbing etc.

I've heard the whole album and I need to play it again with different equalisation so I'm more focussed on Madge's vocals and the lyrics. I was really focussing on SP's work when I played it.

It's always interesting to listen to the works of producers PSB have collaborated with, to get a feel for what they contributed versus what PSB created. You listen to Confessions II and go 'oh, Bolshy and Axis were 90% Stuart Price'. (Maybe not those specific songs)
Same for Depeche Mode's Memento Mori and Nonetheless. I had an idea of what to expect on the lead up to Nonetheless from that album, knew it would be a bit retro and a bit stripped back. It's great though, they don't sound too similar.
The 'everybody needs time to think, nobody can live without love' little section of Loneliness is exactly the same as Depeche Mode's 'everything will be all right in time, it will be fine' from People Are Good.

Anyway, back on topic, Stuart Price and Madonna's new album.
It's interesting seeing Stuart Price in promo footage and events. He hasn't aged a bit.
There are interviews, and there was a live performance with Price performing with Madonna.
I still just see him as the PSB guy.

I want to like the album but first listen I'm just looking for the SP similarities.
I'm thinking my approach to the album should be, this is Madonna as a concept but in the modern setting.
I love her 80s stuff, and a handful of the singles from the decades following it.
It's making me rethink, what even is Madonna? Club music with a bit of character, from this queen diva.
Anyway, interesting to observe all of the promo and hubbub surrounding this album release.

On collaborations, isn't it interesting to notice they tend to be lending vocals to rather obscure artists? CASISDEAD, Kae Tempest, David Gilmour, Mark Springer. It's never really Pet Shop Boys with Duran Duran! or with Stevie Wonder! Pet Shop Boys and Gorillaz collaborate on a new project! It's unknown artists. I mean we had the Soft Cell collab, and the Years & Years one, but still.
Anyway perhaps the Confessions II involvement would be a bit too obvious, given the producer ties.
It's never too late though, a Deluxe edition could come out.
I think we've been spoilt with PSB collabs and remixes, in Disco 5. It's a whole album of that kind of thing.

A poster mentioned this earlier but I definitely hear sounds/references from Electric and Super in Confessions II.

I think the album lacks some proper pop songs. None of the tracks really stick with me. It does sound amazing though. The album has a great "flow"

I think Bring Your Love, Fragile and Bizarre, maybe LES girl - are more conventional songs and are my favourites. Some other good stuff but a bit too much style over substance and over production.

Maybe we will get a PSB remix?

My understanding is that CASISDEAD, Kae Tempest, David Gilmour, and Mark Springer weren't Pet Shop Boys collaborations but Neil lending himself.
