I haven't heard Fundamental yet, so I may be wrong but i seem to recall everyone saying that Release was their best album when that came out. Some people were comparing it to Behaviour!
I think the only way to be able to judge how much you like a PSB album is to see how you feel about it twelve months after release. I was intially really disapointed with Nightlife, yet over the years I have come back to that album and decided it's actually rather good.

I'm always waiting...

It's much much too early to tell. When "Nightlife" came out, I thought it was as good as anything they had ever done, but it hasn't aged very well.
Anyway, I feel certain that even in a few years time, I will prefer Fundamental to Bilingual and I will prefer it to Release. From there on it gets tough. Only time will tell, really.
What I do know is that Fundamental is my favourite album of 2006 so far. My top 5 goes:
1. Pet Shop Boys: Fundamental
2. West End Girls: ...Goes Petshopping
3. Sparks: Hello Young Lovers
4. Above & Beyond: Tri-State
5. BWO: Halcyon Days

Well, it's a fact that it's better than Release, Bilingual, Nightlife and even Please. This album only can be compared with Actually, Introspective, Behaviour and Very.Monty-- wrote:Why do people say' imperial albums' or 'imperial phase'? You're only saying that because Neil said it in interviews.Think for yourselves!
No offence intended.

I'd really want to know why so many of you regard Very as a very good album... is it really?. I don't agree.
Fundamental is great, one of their best: that's out of any question. And what is more... it's their best produced album ever.
The best could remain Behaviour anyway... I think this requieres much more time to say... a couple of years or so.

That's hardly a fact. Especially since Please is their best album.nickname wrote:Well, it's a fact that it's better than Release, Bilingual, Nightlife and even Please. Nothing beats the first magnificent three, where they fantastically blended pop and art...all of others were either too much pop or too much art or just shit...
But Minimal...it is a different story...

The CELL by Stephen King instantly hit number 1 in New York Times Bookseller Lists selling well over 200 thousand copies in three weeks. This affirms my opinion: People really need an occassional good horror read...
