Just got back from the NYC Show

Absolutely loved the show. Best of the three times I've seen them. I loved RCMH because unlike other venues there was actually room to dance, which I did, almost the whole show. Except for Dreaming of the queen, when I sat down and began weeping, thinking of a friend who died from AIDS. Integral was amazing. Suburbia kicked ass. Shopping was just incredible. All in all, a fantastic night.

all I know is thank god for tonight... the dc crowd should be much better...

cause the crowd last night pissed me the f*** off...

it's a f*** pop show people... dance music... how the f*** do you remain seated during such great tracks as "Left to my own devices?"

Alright, so people don't just sit down in Toronto then..

See, this is something that has downright FRIGHTENED me at the last 2 PSB concerts I have attended.

I was in the front row for Toronto and a part of me felt bad for standing up and dancing, thereby possible blocking others views. However, had I SAT the entire show, I would have been downright MISERABLE.

During the last tour, I told myself that people sat because the setlist was more slow. This tour however, there just is no excuse.

So I ask..why do PSB dans..sit?!?!

I just saw 15 DM shows this tour and everyone is standing up going mental. So I just don't understand why the sitting.. So this only happens in North America?

The thing is... the last time I saw them in NYC was on the Nightlife tour (only saw them in DC on the Relesae tour)... and the crowd was going crazy there... the makeup of the crowd was also drastically different... I mean, this time I was surrounded by the "too trendy to emote" crowd (with the exception of one fantastically flamboyant gay man who brought an array of props with him and managed to make me smile while I was bitter and angry)... so it's something about THIS crowd...

but again... i've been to shows at DAR before... people there get on their feet... and if they don't I am not going to be told to sit down this time...

it's f*** up too to see the dancers come to the front of the stage doing shit to try and encourage people in other circumstances to jump up... while the five rows in front of them are sitting down...

Hi Digerz, I do remember you. You were with your bf in 1999 in Montreal when the PSB did Nightlife I am right ? I was with Rorie and two other people and we took a picture with Neil when he was in his truck. Did you took that picutre on the same night ? Nice picture !!! Welcome to the board !

P.S. I also love DM a lot

Crowd in Montreal was also difficult to stand up I think some people stated to stand up to dance on Minimal if i remember well.

Yes, that was me with you guys in Montreal. I was there was a guy, yes, but he was never my boyfriend. (though he wanted everyone to think that but don't get me started on this story..)

That night was definitely awesome! These are the two pics I have from that night:

Neil and I:

--who gave him that sunflower? It was so cute to see him carrying that around all night.

Us at the end of the night:

I'll never forget going to that first club and finaly realizing that they were not going to show up. I remember asking a bouncer there for the info on where they had gone. So it was nice that he told us. Neil had fun looking at the Literally book I brought to get signed. He hadn't seen it in a while.

I'd love to see your pics with Neil that night.

Oh and this is Martin Gore and I in Montreal this past May:

See? Montreal is my lucky city!! I also met David Gahan there the first time in 2001 and also another time in 2003 when he actually came back to me in a group of people after siging autographs and held my hand before walking away.

I lurve Montreal..it's just a nice place..

Ohhh, the show was fantastic. I was singing all of their song. And the cd/books signatures was fantastic also. They signed for me Fundamental, on the two cds and also PopArt which I bought that night.

Thanks for sharing these pictures. I don't have a scanner but what we could do is that if you give me an address, I would be more than glad to send you pictures we took that night. Yes I remember how cold it was and how we finally met the boys after one false club hehehehe. But it worth it ! On the group picture, I am the one in the middle

We took one with Rorie, me, Dan and Paula (the two at the end) with Neil when he was leaving. I don't remember who ask but someone asked if we could take a picture with him and he said okay but I don't want to get out the truck so we did a picture like that but it was nice ! But if you give me your e-mail, I could send you the pics we took backstage with them in Toronto in 2002 (I got them on Cd). you can send me a PM with your infos

Oups sorry for the boyfriend thing...I thought he was heheheheh. Really dunno who gave Neil the flower, probably a fan inside the club I guess !

Me and my friend Jen made it through the signing pretty quick. We got there pretty early so we were one of the first 30 or so people through the line. We got our CD's signed and then headed out. I got some pictures while waiting in line although they came out a little dark.

due to my girlfriends sister's neverending bullshit I couldnt make the signing.
but the show was awesome. always amazed at how a song I never really cared for like shopping could end up being one of my favorites from the night.

Indeed. Why do people often stay seated during psb concerts? It has been the case at many of the shows I have attended in Britain over the years too.

My wife and I were at the show last night and it was excellent. It was the first time seeing the boys, but we've both been fans for a long time. We enjoyed the opening, with the dancers and singers coming out in identical outfits as Neil and Chris - fooling us for a short bit till the stars came on stage.

I agree that the sit down/stand up behavior of the audience was a bit disconcerting. One problem is that Radio City is a lovely, acoustically-excellent, comfortable venue - so the audience almost feels like it should be sitting and listening. And I'd have to guess that most of the audience last night was about my age - mid-40-something. Some of these old folks prefer to sit during concerts these days! However, as soon as the dance beat kicked in, I don't know how anyone could continue to just sit there. This is the Pet Shop Boys on stage - and dancing is required! Perhaps if they split the show with a 1st half/quiet-slower set and a 2nd half/hi-energy dance set, the audience would know how to react.

I would have been happy to have the disco-outro to the closer "Go West" go on for another 15 minutes. Turn RCMH into a disco for the end of the evening. I did actually enjoy the singers doing a mini-medley of the songs at the very end. It was a nice parting, slightly campy and a sweet summary of the genius that is the Pet Shop Boys.

I think just from what everyone is saying the seating/standing problem seems to be happening at every show so far, and I think that its partly due to the venues and the way the show starts.
Place Des Arts, like Radio City, is more of a sitting down kinda venue- in Montreal, everyone was seated until "Heart" which really got most of the crowd going until the intermission. Things really turned around in the 2nd act when everyone stood up and danced for the rest of the show (except for Numb and Home and Dry, naturally).
Also- at most pop shows, the first song gets everyone going and everyone is on their feet from the minute the singers step on stage (if not before). Psychological doesn't get people on their feet, and its hard to get people to stand after the first song.
