Do you think "Nonetheless" has any song that could get into a Top 30 of best songs from PSB of all time?

Top 30 when? Now? Which country? UK?
Simple answer. No. They're a legacy act, *but* a legacy act that still creates exciting music - which is ironically why they achieved legacy act status. But, no, the general public love their 'Early Stuff' and probably jig along awkwardly to their new stuff when they do a gig/festival. However, I *love* the fact that songs like Domino Dancing and Being Boring, both of which underperformed expectations-wise, are now songs even the public appreciate and sing along to.
PSB are so good, that they have an amazing run of hit records AND then create the term used to define that period ("Imperial Phase").

Love is the law is one of the best songs they've written.

Once again I find myself wondering if fans of other musical artists are as obsessed with lists as fans of Pet Shop Boys appear to be...at least based on this forum.

I guess the obsession is due to following them for decades and we know they are ALSO obsessed with all the details of every aspect of their output. Almost every release is testament to that.

Loneliness and A New Bohemia. ANB is my fave single this millennium.
Might end up in my top five eventually. It's just so beautiful.

Well I don't know about the "Definitive List"
. Beyond sterile chart performance (which varies anyway due to changing times and technology) who can really say?
But I often like to think about what N&C would choose for a Essential Discography - just kept to a one CD "selection" of tracks they think best represent them.
Even if they had 10 It's A Sin-style tracks that all went to #1, I can almost guarantee N&C would not fill the disc with just that.
I reckon A New Bohemia would be on there. Somehow that track has a wisdom and earnestness that represents them.
They've always looked to add texture to their catalogue, never content to be known by a certain style of hit song.

Greetings,
It's a very consistent listen across the first six tracks, but they all fall short of the mark for mine.
None make the Top 30, but similarly, I'm sure none of them make the Bottom 30 either.
Retro.

Loneliness, Feel and Why am I dancing would be strong contenders for a PSB top 30. They always deliver.

I love lists, and judging from the usual ābest albums of the year so farā lists that appear at this time of the year, and the annual end of year round ups, so do others. Itās fun; no more, no less. Detractors (me included) will pour scorn at the collated coolness of the best 50 whatever that predictably mirrors the prejudices and expectations of the list writers. We'll then dive into the list with our own prejudices and expectations. Thatās part of the fun, no?TallThinMan wrote: Mon 01 Jul 2024, 5:13 pm Once again I find myself wondering if fans of other musical artists are as obsessed with lists as fans of Pet Shop Boys appear to be...at least based on this forum.![]()

Hmm, I'm not "feeling" any of these tracks would fit into an all time Top 30 best to be honest. Not that they aren't good, but the competition is pretty fierce at the top.

No, but "Feel" would come close. Wonderful tune.
"Unprofessional? Us? Sir. Might I with due respect remind you that Mister Vandemar and myself burned down the City of Troy? We brought the Black Plague to Flanders. We have assassinated a dozen kings, five popes, half a hundred heroes and two accredited gods. Our last commission before this was the torturing to death of an entire monastery in sixteenth century Tuscany. We are utterly professional." - Mr Croup
