Actually, it is quite a good way of communicating something to the masses. When dealing with an issue to a mass group of people that is affecting more than a couple people from the group, it is best for a leader (moderator in this case) to communicate to the masses as a subtle hint to those offenders to stop doing what is offensive. At this point, there really is no point in singling people out, as there is really no point. It is a general way of stating "We know that it is only a few that are doing this, but we're going to communicate this to all" type of thing. Reason for this? (A) you are communicating to the offenders to knock it off; (B) you are letting those that are offended know that something is generally being done; (C) you are letting those that have not committed such actions know that such actions won't be tolerated; and (D) you are getting it "out there" and in public record. Quite often, if such offenses continue to happen by these offenders, the leaders/moderators can then turn to them personally, point to the earlier appeal, and state things again, with a harsher warning. Consider StevePSB's general announcement as the first warning, and the following PM the second and more final warning. It is quite common and effective management, really.dVTB wrote:As for the PM thing. You're right: the message StevePSB wasn't aimed at all of us and *could* have been PM'ed to one or two persons only. But it's no reason to cause such a stir and claim it's a 'rather rude and patronising message'.

As for this situation- I suggest people actually do what StevePSB asks- read the damn Forum Rules. Quite a few of these were broken as of late (I, for one, will be man enough to state that I broke some), and those offenders (myself included) need to realize that the already mild, general rules that all of us agreed to when we joined the board, were, indeed, being broken.
Now, see? I've gone and made an already much too long, much too boring thread even more so.

Well we all know what happened to Christ when he communicated to the masses. We all know what was up when Moses came along with his little fancy rock with chizzled bullshit on it, so I think we are all just gunna have to wait until StevePSB's avatar appears to us on our door or on a fancy dancy white towel before we can all sit down to bread and water and truly appreciate the asses in my avatar!

It seems there are a great majority of people spoiling this community for the people who are trying to enjoy it by posting only when needed.
Most of the problem seems to be irrelevant posts such as, 'What's your favourite colour?' or 'I bought this the other day did you get it?' to stupid arguments.
I fart on average four times a day if I'm counting, I do not feel the need to post the fact every time I do so.
StevePSB, get rid of the chaff, then this board can be the best in it's field.
