Does anyone else think Nightlife is their worst album?

NO! I don't share this feelings about 'Nightlife'.
It's one of the most listened PSB albums here,
I love it to bits.

At least with Release they were purposely trying something different (that some fans didn't like) ...

I didn't like it and still dislike 'Release' relase.

I agree with Ghost and Choliux - it has never felt like a cohesive album to me and that's why I don't particularly care for it. I actually didn't buy it for ages because I thought that there was another special edition (ie: not just the one with the plastic sleeve) and then kind of lost interest after a week of looking. It was my PSB crisis - I didn't want to hear it after reading the NME 4/10 review and New York city boy was *ironic* in a 'Oh they've done a Village People style song' for about a minute. But I made it through the storm.....

It's got some excellent tracks but the whole is definitely unsatisfying.

i LOVE nightlife and have never had any complaints about it. Release IMO is they're worst album.

I think working with Craig Armsrong was a mistake - the orchestrations are generally good, but the production is lame. If Rollo has done the whole album, and New York city boy was dropped, it would've been much better.

Bilingual is one of my favourite albums in terms of the songs, but I agree with N&C that they got the running order wrong. I think many hardcore fans like PSB when they sound like PSB, and on Bilingual (and Release) they often don't. I, however, tend to prefer these tracks (eg. Before, Boy Strange LIAC).

Only about 5-6 tracks that are good on Nightlife and the same on Release. Only Release beats it because it is a more complete album. Yes, they should've kept CTH musical seperate from NL and maybe they would've had a better album.

It has been six years (yes 2000) that I did not listen to a song from Nightlife, except for the majestic Kraftwerk-like Radiophonic. So this makes it the worst album for me- Even I did listen to it, there is that horrible In Denial, and another horror New York city boy- by the way PSB's slow songs have always been good contenders some are excellent, but the only one and footsteps make my skin crawl with goosebumps- not for their beauty, of course.

Bilingual on the other hand- Discoteca and To Step Aside are excellently haunting enough to make it something very worthy...

At this point in my life, I must confess that I'm really very conflicted about Nightlife.
It came out 2 months after I had almost lost my right leg. The tour offered me my 1st opportunity to see PSB live. It seemed like it was a hedge against the diciest project of their creative lives - Closer to Heaven. It had You only tell me you love me when you're drunk.
I guess I would have to say that it isn't exactly their finest hour but, uneven as it may be, it's still worth listening to.

my only issue with nightlife is I sometimes felt some of the songs were better than the versions that ended up on the CD. I love the song "closer to heaven" but the arrangement is so dark and heavy.

I think the montage version of footsteps is much better and warmer and beautiful the stripped down version,

the arrangements on for your own good and radiophonic seemed so one note and one level. the songs never seem to take off and end up sounding repetitious .

boy stange? great chord changes and melody for the verse parts but I feel the chorus didnt live up to all the song could be.

but for me vampires and drunk were perfection.

I really think that make no sanse to put in the same group album of NEW STUFF and ALBUM OF REMIXES.
DISCO 2 is not the "worst album" because is not a TRUE album...
DISCO 2 is something born at the end of VERY...
that's why I usually take DISCO 1, 2, 3 like a "bonus" when all the singles from an album were released...
I think that when we talked about album we have to talk only about NEW STUDIO RELEASE. No remix, No grethest hit collections or something like that...
