Why the negativity towards the odd PSB album or 2?

But when you have fans all saying the same thing about particular albums / tracks, who is right? It's us that buy this stuff.

most fans i know think that Bilingual and Release are two fantastic albums... it seems that most people here will just hate tracks that don't sound like "it's a sin" basically.
I personally think that their new release is always better than the previous and that's one of the reasons why PSB are my favorite band.
Still i will agree that behaviour is a timeless classic beyond and away from any comparison.

The thing is I'm wondering what people actually like in PSB when i hear them say that Release is crap (sorry but most arguments i did read were not always much more detailed than that).

I think Release is a very good album. It's just that when it's compared to every other PSB album, it really is quite crappy IMO. Very few of the songs are really memorable ("You Choose" is a very good example of this), while at least one ("The Night I Fell in Love") is utterly horrible.
Actually, I was really looking forward to PSB going rock. I thought it was an interesting idea. Unfortunately, their idea of rock apparently is music in the Phil Collins/Richard Marx mould, i.e. middle-of-the-road AOR music, whilst I was hoping for a more agressive style a'la "A Powerful Friend".
Finally, the production of several tracks ("Here" and "The Samurai in Autumn" in particular) sound like unfinished demos. That is not what I've come to expect from Neil & Chris, who have been consistent perfectionists throughout their career.
All in all, Release to me was a huge disappointment.

Maybe it is because of the primitive production of 'Here' that it reminds me of a Beatlessong. Simple but perfect.

it would be a great idea if down the road just for fun they remixed all of release and did it the electronic way.

in fact, they could have done what shania twain the country artist did she released 2 versions of her last CD. the country version, with country arrangements, and the pop version with well, poppy versions.

I also find it interesting release was pretty much untouched by remixers except for home and dry.
