INTEGRAL (New Mix) - (20 seconds)
Well... just heard it and I must admit I am disappointed. I don't mind it--and actually I like the electro/dark sound it has (sounds like they have been tinkering with new types of audio plug-ins and effects...very cool)... but...
WHY can't we have a ~9-10 minute INTENSE mix, that is an expansion of the original? I mean, take some of the ideas of the new mix, and BUILD it like the original! I still think their mix of Madonna's "Sorry" has such intensity--an intro, a build, a massive "bring in the main vocal" moment, a beautiful breakdown, then a massive CLIMAX at the end. This is what I have been longing for with Integral... There are even times with the new version that it sounds almost sloppy; the organization of the track is kind of odd...
Oh well, just my thoughts. Integral is one of my favorite songs ever, and just like "Closer to Heaven" (another favorite tune of mine), we'll only get one fairly good "other version" but nothing that lives up to the glory of the original...

I don't see why Integral should sound euphoric. It's a cold, bitter and angry song. If you want euphoric PSB songs, try stuff like The Sodom And Gomorrah Show. I think the new production serves the song much better. I'll try to explain why.Syncratic wrote:The 7" and 12" I've heard lacks inspiration and that euphoria that made the album version a fantastic slice of pop. Sure, it's a rather inoffensive electro piece, and for better or worse sounds like a backing tracks for a short film set in the enar future. Perhaps it's not disimilar to the work they did with Potemkin, (which I liked) but other than this it really is dull and sterile. It's really weak and disappointing and doesn't live up to the clear remix potential it had.
I find the album version of Integral a bit cheesy at times. That 'cheesiness' is missing in the new version, fortunately. It emphazises cold-sounding choir sounds and during the synth riff, the bassline stays monotone (in E, if I'm not mistaken); not following the chords anymore. This is also much better. It removes the joy from this riff.
Basically, the verses were completely re-written. Their melody is completely different from the album version. I prefer the new verses, because of the computerized effects. All in all, the new version is a much better combination of music fitting the lyrics.

The 12" is impressive. Finally the Pets have turned to Electro House
Maybe my favourite band is coming back...

Yeah, not too bad. I like the 12" the best.
I like the fact that it's more electro but why have crowd noises at the end for so long??
I always felt that the album mix was just another Go West sounding song, although it has grown on me since seeing them perform it live.
I'll be pumping it out of my stereo for a while
And I only heard one pig noise at 6:20

Is this the crowd from Wolverhampton sounds like it well done Neil and Chris this is an awesome mix and why does something have to stay the same but just longer.
A departure from the norm is fine by me it means they are still growing and not afraid to try a different approach.
