In Depth - a new fan podcast recorded by forum members

#46 Post by rashomon »

Had a listen …. great stuff Chris and Graham!

As others have said, listening to you recount your stories jogged my own memories of those early years of discovery. I had totally forgotten about the tone that played on cassettes but I’m itching to hear that again now!

The overall vibe felt like I was in a room with a couple of mates chatting about my favourite band

Really looking forward to more episodes.

Really, really enjoyed both episodes, what a trip down memory lane that was!! My brother was a fan right from the beginning and soon got me hooked, and we traveled together to many concerts abroad and saw them together in London, Bristol, Paris and New York - oh and Atlantic City! He lived in Copenhagen while I had moved from Denmark to Paris in 1988 and then on to New York (where I still live) in 2004 - and we often timed his visits with one of their concerts. We also went together to see Closer to Heaven in London in 2001, and I almost didn’t make it because of a bomb scare on the Eurostar (this was right after 9/11). He is sadly no longer here, I lost him to cancer in 2019, so listening to you talk about PSB and the history of your “relationship” with them, really brought me back to those times together with my brother.

This brought back memories of being at school on the day of Radio One’s PSB day, and getting away with listening to it on my Walkman in lessons. If memory serves me right, the Boys Number 1 fan Steve Wright played I wouldn’t normally do this kind of thing, and made some comment about it sounding the same as Left to my own devices

Steve Wright never liked them. Don’t know why. Probably because they didn’t conform to the standard pop rhetoric

First two episodes are amazing. Calm, articulate voices who know their facts and no getting sidetracked for minutes with bits that are only funny for the hosts. Any time a new topic is introduced I think "oh they better mention _____" and they always do.

Listened to the first two podcasts this morning and thoroughly enjoyed them. Love the pace and tone of your conversation - you both give each other ample time to express your comments. Love how respectful it is, even if you have the occasional slightly different view. Great to hear your different stories and memories - felt like I wanted to join in your conversation with you several rimes!

Hope you keep up the good work!

Thank you for the nice comments. Glad that we are bringing back some happy memories! As I have said already we were very unsure about doing this so we are so pleased that it has connected with some people. At one stage we even reached number six on the Apple Podcast music commentary chart! If you have enjoyed the episodes so far and have any thoughts on how you many be able to help get it to other people that might be interested then that would be fantastic. And do consider giving it a share or posting a review on one of the podcast platforms. That would be amazing. It’s obviously a niche thing so helping it find an audience is key. Thanks again.

Sharing the direct links to episode two here, for anyone else that’s interested:

In the second episode, Graham and I - while grateful for almost 40 years of Pet Shop Boys' output - discuss the items that are still on our wishlists.

We share our fantasy PSB reissues, dream concert setlists and venues, the catalogue gaps we’d like to see filled - and there’s some speculation about some of our favourite unreleased song titles.

just discovered this Podcast and already hooked !! Keep it up guys !!

Like you said, you guys are very lucky being in the UK - we last had the boys here 9 years ago (yesterday) in Australia for the Electric Tour

Love Chris' idea of an 'Anti-Tour' like Kylie did - bsides, album tracks, rarities....

I'd also love a Further Listening version of Relentless (yes, make it an official album release), Electric, Super and Hotspot too
what a performance tonight, should I react or turn off the light ?

I just listened to the wishlist episode and loved it. Maybe you can extend the discussion about tours/live wishes/setlists/venues etc. someday.

Although some song choices and the setup ideas for The Miserablism Ballads Tour ( ) were great, I'd rather go for The Bangers and Lasers Set. Let's hope that someday they'll play the one-off obscurities set Chris talks about from time to time. ;)

Once again thank you to everyone who has listened to one or both of our first two podcasts.

Episode 3 is now online and this week we deep dive into Introspective and ask the question no one has asked before… is it a secret prog rock album?

I created some loose criteria with which to judge it and somehow we managed to combine this with The Incredible String Band, not getting arrested and Altern 8’s remix of Music for Boys!

So is Introspective prog? There’s only one way to find out…

Loved the Introspective on Introspective :P

If I were to add another 4 tracks to make it a 10 track album to please the Americans, I would add:

I Get Excited (You Get Excited Too)
One of the Crowd
Losing My Mind
Your Funny Uncle

Looking forward to the next Podcast!
