They are official, yes.Oznerol wrote: Thu 08 Aug 2024, 7:07 pm So there is an edit of 3:48, and extended of 6:20 and a Superextended of 8:17? Are those three official mixes?
Also the instrumental, altough I don´t count that as a "collaboration"![]()

Making a contemporary remix of a classic is rarely a good idea (DoA You Spin Me Round 1994, 2000, 2010, 2030, 2040 anyone? Or the countless Bananarama Venus or Gloria Gaynor I will survive remixes and remakes?). It certainly isn't in this case either (despite the good intentions, no doubt). Just listen to the original instead of this pointless remake.
Sorry, but I really do not like it.

Agree. This daft remix only strengthens the brilliance of the original. There is nothing new on offer. Boring generic sounds you can hear on any dance record from the past 20 years and Neil speaking a few lines that are nothing but pretentious filler.oakey wrote: Fri 09 Aug 2024, 8:54 pm Making a contemporary remix of a classic is rarely a good idea (DoA You Spin Me Round 1994, 2000, 2010, 2030, 2040 anyone? Well all that may have some truth, but there's something to be said for remixing a song to fit in with all the other boring generic sounds that are on a modern DJs setlist. It's a way to get plays and pull younger audiences to your back catalogue. And Neil's addition is kinda cool, imo.
Re: Bronski Beat - Why? (Superchumbo remix ft. Neil Tennant)
It's not my cup of tea, leaning into a "dull, soulless dance music" version of a great song. I wouldn't have minded it if all the verses and lyrics were intact along with Neil's spoken word additions.
Stripped back like it is, 3 minutes is quite enough.

Try the extra long version just once, you may be pleasantly surprised!Gabby wrote: Sat 10 Aug 2024, 3:24 pm It's not my cup of tea, leaning into a "dull, soulless dance music" version of a great song. Agreed. It makes much more sense in the super extended version. I normally can't stand Superchumbo mixes, but this actually works.Sandy Shaw wrote: Sun 11 Aug 2024, 5:57 pmTry the extra long version just once, you may be pleasantly surprised!Gabby wrote: Sat 10 Aug 2024, 3:24 pm It's not my cup of tea, leaning into a "dull, soulless dance music" version of a great song. Because it comes at it from the dance music side, rather than the indie side.ChoonHound wrote: Mon 26 Aug 2024, 1:23 am WTF is “indie Dance” and why is it this and not Saint Etienne, New Order, etc.

Greetings,
If you're an "indie" person, and you think of "indie dance" you'll think of indie acts who have a dance flavour about them, but it's still indie music, and therefore a sub-genre of indie.

Those two are quite a long way away from each other. Stores like Beatport that cater to DJs will naturally interpret it in the second way, not the first.
Retro.
Yes it does.
