Re: Pet Shop Boys Missteps
In what way is the video clip of 'Domino Dancing' homoerotic? Please could you explain? Thank you.

I was just a kid when Domino dancing came out, had no idea that it was homoerotic until much later.

I think it entirely depends on whether you're looking at it through a gay or straight lens.
I can understand why people think it's homo erotic, but as a 17 year old straight man, this is all I had eyes for in the video...

There was a Gloria Estefan video around the same time that was very similar. I didn't notice a gay story line in either video. Young men fighting over a woman was how I saw the Domino Dancing video at the time. Not that it matters to me, or should matter to anyone living in the modern world.
Agreed, and the video really helped all that click together for me. You need to see people dancing to the song to really get it. Well, I did.An electronic dance record in waltz time, on the other hand, is really strange, which is one reason I love Together.

You have to remember Eric Watson’s concept for the video. He had a bee in his bonnet at the time about how the music videos shown on MTV were objectifying women. So the idea was to objectify everyone in the ‘Domino Dancing’ video.

I wasn't aware of that, but he certainly succeeded.TallThinMan wrote: Wed 08 Oct 2025, 2:02 pm You have to remember Eric Watson’s concept for the video. As a gay I never thought it was a gay video , I saw it as two men fighting for the females attention, ok they had there tops off and rolling around together, absolutely brilliant song that always takes me back to better days
Re: Pet Shop Boys Missteps
Well we are talking about missteps and there's a focus on America. So you gotta be a little careful - maybe put to homoerotic imagery *after* the album release, is all I'm saying. Especially if the album cover is slightly reminiscent of a rainbow flag. I'm buying it either way, though
. Put Axel Rose on the cover, for all I care.
I wonder if the Domino Dancing break-down section from the disco mix might of made the single more attractive also. Maybe not all of it, but just add a bit of oomph to the ending. Everytime I hear the single mix I'm expecting the breakdown part! But the dreamy fade-away trumpet at the end of the single mix is perfect too.

When we were kid we used to be a bit more simple but now it's obvious. All the boys on the video got together. The 2 boys being watched by Chris and Neil with the boy of the apartment,Skybluearmy87 wrote: Wed 08 Oct 2025, 2:42 pm As a gay I never thought it was a gay video , I saw it as two men fighting for the females attention, ok they had there tops off and rolling around together, absolutely brilliant song that always takes me back to better days
In fact, Donna is the one who stayed alone laughing (in the extended music video).

Almost all the videos from PSB are objectifying men to be honest. Maybe it's just because I'm not gay but I think they do it too much.TallThinMan wrote: Wed 08 Oct 2025, 2:02 pm You have to remember Eric Watson’s concept for the video. Another one: Delusions of Grandeur not being the Bilingual lead single.
It's such a great song.....

Psb obviously had a gay agenda, and so did MTV at the time - it was cutting edge and cool, created a more tolerant society which benefits everyone. I don't believe there ever was a song too gay to become a #1 hit anyway, no normal average person ever was homophobic.

If you think two guys having a beer, hanging out and burying the hatchet is gay, well then you have a world to discover.

Haha, no of course not. If you think that's the only thing relevant about that image - sure.telys wrote: Thu 09 Oct 2025, 2:35 pm If you think two guys having a beer, hanging out and burying the hatchet is gay, well then you have a world to discover.
