And so the reason Maverick forced Erasure to re-record half of the album, songs which eventually ended up as mere UK B-sides, was?

"And so," I think you should re-read my statement.

"And so," although Madonna was not impressed with said album, it wasn't the reason they were removed from her label.

"And so," for a non-Erasure fan, you certainly are up to par on all things sparkly leotard.

You caught me. I have been sponsored by The Society That Believes Erasure Have Stormed EMI Towers And Hijacked The Corporate Helm Only To Release A Greatest Hits Package Around Brit Time To Foil And Spoil PSB's Big Day.

I retire my badge effective immediately.

And so, we're lucky enough to have a 'statement'. At what time will your press conference commence? You'll be sure to have your PR put me near the front, won't you?
pulse wrote:Although Madonna was not impressed with said album, it wasn't the reason they were removed from her label.
When did she tell you this? Oh, hang on, you're not Erasure's PR are you?

My line of work means I deal with the business of music almost every day. It's not a secret. And as I said earlier in the thread, you don't have to be a fan of anyones to be knowledgeable. Perhaps that's a difficult concept for you to grasp though. After all, your three most posted subjects on a Pet Shop Boys board are all Erasure threads, so clearly there's something wrong somewhere.

Right, I think I'll go and listen to Kate Bush's And So Is Love now.

I would strongly disagree with that. Whilst Erasure's 2007 varietal had a down year, they tend to have more of an up and down type latter half career, whereas I seriously think PSB have diminished consistently. I still like them, though.

As for 50 years plus, yes, I do believe many of Erasure's songs will be remembered far more dearly because of their solid foundation of melodic structure. It's the bottom line, and no amount of spin, marketing, presumed-coolness or lack thereof, label budgets, producer-names, club/dance ties, or polish can ever take away from that. Erasure are still, out of these two bands, far and away better melodic pop songwriters. They aren't even in the same category when it comes to that. Erasure are simply about songwriting. Interestingly, Madonna signed Erasure based on this. They were dumped, not because of her dislike of the Loveboat album, but for the financial toils Maverick was facing (and eventually succumbed to).

Many people on here liked PSB's latest album. I didn't. I didn't like "Minimal" - speaking out the letters in the song in a droning way for the chorus is not my thing. And I didn't like many other songs on it. Even "Integral"'s shelf life was shorter than a cracked egg on a hot day. "Luna Park" I liked a lot. I am presuming that this next album will be far better. I also felt Erasure's latest offering was their weakest ever, but I'm excited, from what Vince is saying about the forthcoming studio project, that the next one will be better.
You are either joking or seriously deluded. Either way, you are talking absolute shite.

I think you're just going to have to tolerate someone's opinion which defers from your own. Deal with it.

Just give it up pulse, this is just a guy who thinks he knows it all and funnily enough has not only began a number of erasure topics, but been the majority poster too!! And then has a go at others for posting about them!! Classic!!

And all this "apparent" inside information!!! Yeah, whatever!!! Still haven't explaind how people can get two different pop groups mixed up! PSB have won a Brit, I'm off to get the new Erasure album :eh:

There's only one thing incorrect about this line. And again, like with your amusing posts that claimed that PSB have been lazier than Erasure and released far fewer projects, it's a simple case of mathematics that even a blindfolded five-year old could grasp.

As Johnny Ball would say, think of 'a number'. That number doesn't get further than one. Next.....

I agree. No-one in their right mind would go and buy an Erasure album on the back of the PSB being awarded an outstanding achievement from the Brits. I'm glad we agree on something. It's just sad that Erasure's record company are deluded enough to think people might. People don't buy Erasure albums as it is. PSB winning an award won't make them buy it. Nothing will. Think it's safe to say they won't sell very many records off the back of it. I think the PSB will sell shedloads more....which is nice.
That's it, it's all over. We're out of here. What a Legacy! (c) Chris Lowe 2009

Lazier? Weird logic! I suppose you count the Disco projects as being that of studio albums! Plus the reissues! Up to this day, Erasure have released 11 studio albums, PSB 9 with their 10th not long off, Both groups have released a number of other projects and remix albums PSB have released BP, Concrete and Alternative with the 4 Disco albums, 3 of which are nearly 100% full of already released stuff! Even Disco 3 has only 4 original songs, unreleased before! Erasure have also released Other people's songs and Union street, plus Two ring circus and Rain:Plus, Moon and the sky plus and stormchaser remix/live albums plus a number of other live albums, plus much more exclusive fan club stuff than PSB. Andy has released his solo album and Vince has been involved in a few side projects too, just like Neil and Chris have done from time to time. Oh and both have already released 2 greatest hit's albums.

I would say they have both released a similar amount of work, give or take but neither can exactly be called Lazy or unproductive! The award is not about how many albums you release anyway, is it?
Sorry for being blind, but from what exactly? I liked it when in a previous post you gave out the Erasure Chart positions including Union street, but conveniently left out Concrete and the Disco albums out for PSB! Strange that!

We have been lucky that both groups (or 1 in your case) are still around and making music, and they both have a fanbase big enough to continue for a while yet I imagine. I hope so anyway.

I also like the differences between the two, and although I will probably get slated for this by a few people(!) I have always thought that Erasure would/could never write a song like Being Boring or West End girls just like the PSB would/could never write a song like Sometimes or A little Respect (which I am going to be told are crap by comparison, obviously) IMA!!
I kind of like that difference between the two groups!

All loins is telling us so far is that Erasure don't deserve the award because he finds them crap, which is, I have to say much more like the behaviour of a blindfolded five-year old.

What happened to their fairy-tales album anyway? That sounded like a really good idea.

So PSB are really big sellers are they! News to me! Oh yes they sell more than Erasure but then James Blunt sells more than both of them put together but it is a pretty strange reason to like his music and buy the album because of it!

They both sell enough to survive which is the all important thing as far as I am concerned, especially with all the crap or should I say stuff I don't like at the top of the charts these days. Both groups are just not that commercial anymore as compaired to before but it really does not matter. As long as they continue to release great albums then Ill be happy. Let's not forget that Erasure are on mute and if you think that the PSB don't have much promotion these days then Erasure's is almost non-existant.
