nothing bugs me quite like "little black dress." it's like neil looked up "dress" in a rhyming dictionary and then wrote a song in five minutes. "impress" "success" "princess" "finesse" "unless."

also i am SHOCKED no one has mentioned "new york city boy" yet. neil singing "the hoochies unreal" and "that's the bomb!" is a bit like your dad awkwardly using teen slang while driving you and your friends to school. definitely the most cringeworthy song in their catalog.

and finally - i think some people are missing the point of "party song." it's mean to be a bit satirical, right?

I'm building a wall, a fine wall (I actually love this song)
Winner (all of it)
but i'll forgive them as they are easily the greatest songwriters i have ever had the pleasure of listening to.

Ohhh, this was you, was it? OK, what the heck is this then:
‘LTEODORO’ (incidentally I’m presuming that anyone still reading this is a fan and knows what I’m referring to),
No. No, I don't know.
For your own good, call me tonight.

The lyrics to Winner (and, I guess, the delivery of the vocal) are the main reason I can't stand it, and one reason I didn't share everyone else's excitement about the HappySad mix - I felt the bad bit was still there. The first verse is pretty in places, but "make us see the world through new eyes every day" has an unholy (for them) Christian rock vibe. It's like something from a greetings card. After that, there's no redeeming the song, especially given that the line is repeated. I feel the same about "don't forget all the love and laughter". I love PSB but I just can't get on board with this song no matter how many times I try - it's the reason Elysium isn't significantly higher in my favourites.
I must disengage your recreational music.

Together

A song I’ve never liked and the lyric “ I'm gonna need to follow through” just makes me think Neil is in need of a massive shit

I want to wake up

This bit’s brilliant:

I stood at the kitchen-sink, my radio played
Songs like "Tainted Love" and "Love Is Strange"

The next bit, not so good:

As I listened and the words hit my ears
I cried sudden tears

The first line’s a tautology, and I’m not sure that’s quite how biology works.
Woof.

Not being a native speaker of English I concur with some of the reactions that not all details are immediately apparent to me. However, given that I very much appreciate the "britishness" of the PSB, I hate it when they use Americanisms such as double negatives, slang or American phrases.

Their worst lyric which is also is not "them" are from Party at the Blitz, ie the dick shrinking phrase makes me cringe all the time:
Party in the blitz, more drinking, losing everything, dick shrinking

Songs like Ego Music, The night I fell in love, E-mail have been mentioned for having generally poor lyrics, with which I also agree.

And obviously over the years I had to correct myself a lot of time for having initially misheard many of their lyrics.

In bits which incidentally is an anagram of "bins it" which he should have.

"It's as good as it gits"

The lyrics on the OS are notable by their absence.

That one is the worst!

It took me a long time to get over "You don't know nothing" from "Shameless". I rationalised it with myself by saying that he's singing in character.
