JSDOUVRES wrote: Sat 25 Mar 2017, 3:13 pm Well the anti-democrats are out in full force today as promised to march against Brexit despite the fact that the police are stretched to their limits already with what went on during the week.

Apparently a bloke called Tim Farron is speaking whom I gather is a politician of a party that came 4th is the last general elections so not really much to shout about now is it and if that's the best they can do then good luck to them!!!

Saw a mock up poster of Farage as Hitler which was quite well done actually so some good artists amongst the people there, shame they don't see the huge irony in exactly what they are doing though especially in regards to people like Hitler but then again calling somebody a nazi that doesn't share your views is pretty darn easy now isn't it and when it comes to these people is pretty much "cliché"!!

I still think that this march should be towards the channel tunnel and everybody should have their belongings with them on their way to a new life in what they obviously see as "the promised land". I'm sure they would do well in their new lives in Poland or Romania and that the youngsters would find jobs easy to come by in Spain, Italy or Greece........

I do laugh at these utter idiots out today and find it incredible that people say this is what democracy is about when it is the exact opposite. I myself will never ever accept a democratic vote that doesn't go my way again although with their being no relevant opposition to the conservatives whatsoever I don't have much to worry about of course.
Still can't decide if you are being deliberately provocative as your language is distasteful and your understanding of a democracy is false.
My understanding of a democracy is that people accept and support the result of a democratically held referendum, not take to the streets in order to try and overturn the result of one when the result doesn't go their way. What is your understanding of democracy? The right to refuse to accept democracy in the first place? If anybody is being distasteful then it is those that demonstrate against democracy itself, not the other way round.

Imagine if after every general election the supporters of the lossing parties took to the streets and refused to accept the result. It would be total and utter chaos. That is what this kind of thing is about and what these disgusting marches show. Lack of respect and acceptance of a democratic process is a very scary and bigoted way to be and what we are seeing in London is an absolute disgrace to the country. And of course I mean it when I say that if people are really unhappy and have so much faith in the European Union that they should move there. Why stay on a sinking ship if you have so little faith in Britain but so much in the EU? Put your money where your mouth is and move there while you can. That's what I would do if I had so little faith in my own country, absolutely.

Anyway, apparently Theresa May has decided that today's march was so amazing and that some of the banners were so brilliantly done and the chants so friendly and true that we will not be leaving the EU after all so well done everybody that went today you all did an incredible job.......
The protest was pointless, I admit. But at least it was peaceful. Didn't turn into a series of retaliatory murders of MPs, avenging the murder of Jo Cox by a pro-Britain person.

But who cares about it being peaceful? They are still whiny little cry babies that deserve all the ridicule for the rest of their life am I rite?

Everyone loves a bit of a disagreement about the right course for the country.

Very worried for those that still think that living costs won't rise, and that somehow inequality will fall.

You've been conned, wake the ____ up!

March to Parliament
If you live in the London area and feel strongly about staying in Europe, this is happening on Saturday. More information at the link below. Neil x
So, let us know dear Pet Heads...did anyone catch a glimpse of Neil and Chris "marching" to Parliament this past Saturday? Any photos to share of Neil gliding down the street or Chris off to the side sipping a Pint? Or did they ride on down the Government directed path on a chariot like before? Let us know Pet Heads! #EUROZONE #FABULOUS #FREEDOM #LETSMAKELOTSOFMONEY #EURODISCO

@jamie1978 - I would respectfully suggest that the above section of your post is misleading at best. I don't want to get into an economic argument about the UK (especially as I am not British) but around 50% of the international trade in services (excluding travel, transport and banking), exports by UK in 2015 was to Europe.
But exports are only 10% of UK GDP. So my figure of 5% was correct.

Then you're understanding of what a democracy is is so deeply flawed that I don't believe anyone should bother to engage you in conversation about it again until that understanding improves. Sorry.

Also, the purpose of the Anti-Brexit march was to demonstrate the weight of opinion against the decision to "Brexit". Nothing else. It wasn't to overturn the result or be anti-democratic. It was exercising the right to free speech. Of course people don't take to the streets and "refuse to accept" the result of general election. That doesn't mean they all suddenly support the very party they voted against.

Jesus, this isn't complicated.

You can twist and word it however you want, to be fair I absolutely agree that people have the right to take to the streets and demonstrate whatever they want, I went to my parents for dinner the other day and the the chicken was cold, if I wanted to I could go to parliament square right now with a banner stating that my mum's food was cold but that doesn't make it right!

The problem is that demonstartions against things such as the Brexit vote do not help anything but do the exact opposite, they divide us and cause frictions which are not good for anybody. And people could easily take to the streets if they wanted to demonstrate against the result of a general election or should I say to excercise their right to free speech. People could do it for whatever they wanted and it would lead to chaos. And many of the people at the Anti-Brexit march were clearly there to try and change the result, I saw the interviews on tv and people made their views very clear. The funniest thing though was the inability of people to answer some of what should have been the easiest possible questions about the EU and the way it works starting with basic questions such as the name of the president of the EU commision or council or even the difference between the two! it is so funny that people are out supporting something they actually know so little about and confirms how important our exit will be. Will Anti-Brexit demonstrations continue now? Let's wait and see but the people going on them are doing the country no favours whatsoever.

Please excuse the slightly tetchy tone of my previous post. It becomes grating hearing the exact same arguments made over and over again wherever I go.

The demonstrations aren't designed to help. They're designed to allow people to express their opinions. If you want to talk about something that divides us and cause frictions you need look no further than the referendum itself. It was a Yes/No vote. That can't do anything other that divide people. Consequently, that's exactly what happened and it threw people via social media into an arena of debate many were ill equipped for.

I seriously doubt there will be chaos. The majority are simply too complacent for anything like that to actually happen. You also can't confuse what "many" of the diverse attendees of the anti-Brexit march were there for (an assumption based on media coverage) with the intentions of the people that organised it.

There were as many who supported Brexit that knew little to nothing about it as there were those who opposed it as far as I can tell. The referendum revealed that not only did many people have no understanding of how the EU system works (which can be a little confusing thanks to the naming), they were also ignorant of how our own democracy works.

The whole things was hideously misrepresented and poorly explained by both sides. It was a shambolic mess. It's no wonder it left a bitter taste in people's mouths.

There has been a lot of repetition from both sides, and I have to disagree with you, the people of Britain are well aware that there are opposing opinions, of course they are, that is what democracy is all about in the first place and is part of life but demonstrating in the way people have done en masse when a decision has been made after a referendum that made it clear it would be is just not right in my opinion. And this is not against people's right to demonstrate and like I said people can demonstrate against what they want, this is about something more than that though, this has been an obvious and blatant lack of respect and acceptance of a massive vote that needs to be respected by all for everybodys good. I don't like it at all, and we have seen it against Trump in America and indeed here too so it is a very real threat that people are prepared to demonstrate against the result of a general election.

If these demonstrations are not meant to help than what good can they do because all it is doing is causing more division, more hate and that is not beneficial to anybody at all at the end of the day.

I am sure they will soon stop and not soon enough, we need to get together as a nation and make sure we get a deal that benefits all of us, not a diversive one which will just be a repeat of what we have already.

No we don't need to. People will disagree and continue to disagree. You can't ask or expect them to do otherwise. Nobody in the nation is going to "get together" and make sure we get a deal that benefits us all. That is up to the politicians and bureaucrats, the so called "experts" that Pob-faced idiot said we're apparently all tired of.

The hate is just silly, I agree. But the people who look past that and have different opinions will continue to hold them and they should be respected regardless. Some people haven't "accepted" the vote, true, just as another public figure stated that he would support a call for a second referendum if it was close and didn't go his way. I've accepted it. It's happening. I don't like it, and won't support it because I voted against and disagree with it. That hasn't and won't change. Nor should it.

The "Remoaner" meme is one of the most idiotic concepts I have ever come across in my entire life. It's just baffling and offensive. But hey, I'm offended. So what? Nothing happens. I'll be offended and move on. I wish everyone else could.

Well said, as you are well aware there has been lots of offensive things said about leavers too but like you I'll be offended and will move on too, reminds me of a brilliant sketch by comic Steve Hughes, well worth a watch, it's fab!

Avoiding the core issues seems to be a feature of some posters. Simply put: 50% of exports are to the EU. That's huge!

If that's only 5% of GDP fair enough but a % of GDP figure is irrelevant to your argument.
