Indefinite Leave to Remain about?

#1 Post by diana »

Neil's feelings towards his country, the UK?
I thought so cause I heard something like that in an interview, but so many say other things.

No, I don't think that is what the song is about. :D

It's based on the story of his friend from Sri-Lanka

I think it's about people looking for new hope, a stable future, and a happy relationship. Neil sings about spending 'half his life' looking for something he found. It might as well be a reference to what he wrote in Metamorphosis: What I wanted to be was a family man (...) ... it didn't make me happy so a started again... etc.

Before I read what Indefinite Leave To Remain literally means in the UK, this was my interpretation of the song.

I think it is simply about the start of a relationship, the hope that it may become something 'stable'/long-term or similar and it's just a slightly different way of saying 'Can I call you my girl/boyfriend now'?

Smplistic interpretation I know, but that is whatI have gotten out of it so far.

Think we have all been brainwashed too much into over-interpreting lyrics (see Fugitive discussion)

:-)

Why does having money mean one shouldn't comment on immigration?

This one´s true !!!! So no need to discuss :D It was both´s friend btw. He takes care of Neil and Chris´s houses when they´re away. Neil mentioned it in some interview.
Interviewer:
-What would you tell someone about yourself if you wanted to impress them?

Chris:
-I´ve got a 12-inch plonker.

Don't you see?!?! Everything Neil writes about is an issue lazily disguised as a relationship these days... 'I'm With Stupid' (George Bush, he's a bit thick, but I love him), 'Indefinite Leave...' (you're an immigrant, but I love you),'Fugitive' (You're a terrorist, but I'd probably give you one), etc... Clearly 'I Get Along' (You're a blind politician, so you might give me one... hold on... It was about Mandy...) was such a rip-roaring success that he now has to apply the same fomula again and again. Lord knows what 'I Want A Dog' is really about....

As opposed to millionaire conservatives who seem to be drawn to the subject like maggots to rotting flesh?
