Aussie tour rumour

#1 Post by retrofuturist »

Hit magazine, which comes in Melbourne's Herald Sun (and possibly also in other major newspapers across the country) has a twin-page spread on the boys today... with details of the album, Elton's stag night, upcoming Robbie collaboration, the BBC concert, Madonna, Kylie and so on....

Possibly of most significance for us Aussies is the following....

There's also talk of an Australian tour by the Pet Shop Boys later this year, their first since 1994.

In the past year a version of Closer To Heaven has been performed in Australia. The Pet Shop Boys also get a pivotal scene in [the] musical Dusty and the Melbourne production Seriously was based entirely on lyrics from their songs.

"We've had an offer to tour Australia in November," Tennant says. "We were quite surprised. We've never sold that many records in Australia. But then someone did Closer To Heaven, then Seriously, then Dusty... we didn't think anyone liked us in Australia."

They're doing Potemkin at the Sydney Opera House in November, aren't they?
Prick up your ears.

Would be great news if true - as (I think) Rusty pointed out, hopefully Fundamental will do some decent business here, so that touring Aust. will seem worthwhile for PSB. :)

As I posted in the other thread about Fundamental here in Oz, HMV have it on their chart at #5, so I think we might be looking at a possible top10, which will hopefully reinforce the idea that touring here is a good idea :D

Yes Dipso, you're right, Neil said on Radio 6 that they would also be performing Potemkin at the Opera House. My guess is that this will be on the steps of the Opera House, and their own concerts will be in the Concert Hall. I suppose it's a little early to get too excited just yet, these things have a habit of going pear shaped. But I must admit I am just a teensy bit excited.
