I made my excuses and left

#1 Post by diana »

In the instrumental part you can hear with a bit fantasy the sound of a man throwing up. Which is quite appropriate with the lyrics. The violins are crying. Beautiful production, this song.

Really? I presumed there was just an echo in the room.

There is a sound from a soundmachine that you can interpretate as "blurb..." ... "blurb".... "blurb".... Chris can do that in the live version!

Are you sure you aren't confusing it with the 'Bleugh' noises?

I assumed it was Timmy Mallett.

"Bleugh", yes, indeed!

Maybe Little Britain can do a scene in the background, playing the situation where the Neil person attacks the untruthful partner.

Hmm...well, I do hear a high pitched screeching noise (can't remember if thats during the intro or part-way through the song), if thats what you mean. However I imagined it as the sound of a train pulling into an empty underground station. I think the background sounds are meant to illicit a sense of the narrator travelling quite solemnly back to their flat/house at night all alone having made their excuses and left.

I didn't think that much of a song at first, but have to admit that its been a real grower. The second best ballad on the album behind Casanova.

I love it. but as time goes by the more the actual song grows on me the less the introduction does.

i also think that the gregorian chant that is heard for a little bit at the beggining of numb would have made the introduction of I made my excuses sound tons better if they were saying "I'm all alone again" instead of the lone voice.

A word association game, you musn't pause or hesitate or you get a bash on the head like this:

BASH!

Or like this:

BASH!

Look at each other and go 'BLEUGH!' Etc...

Yes, that is another sound in the instrumental part.
I love silly sounds in music, they should do it more often.

Gotta listen to it.
Interviewer:
-What would you tell someone about yourself if you wanted to impress them?

Chris:
-I´ve got a 12-inch plonker.

I think it's the worst ballad on the album... Musically it's a bit of a bore.

I agree that "Casanova in Hell" is the best one though, closely followed by "Indefinite leave to remain" and then "Luna Park".

I like the elephant just before Neil starts singing.
