Neil in interview about ID-cards

Tennant, a former Labour donor who has stopped giving money to and voting for Labour because of ID cards, says: "My specific fear is that we are going to create a society where a policeman stops me on the way to Waitrose on the King's Road and says, 'Can I see your identity card?' I don't see why I should have to do that." Tennant says he may leave the country if a compulsory ID card comes into force. "We can't live in a total-surveillance society," he adds. "It is to disrespect us."

Jesus,so much fuss about those ID cards....It's not like he'll have his head off if a policeman asks him for an ID card...d'ohhhhh :roll: :roll:

sorry but in many countries Police can ask you for your ID card,,,what's the problem? it's about your own ecuroty after all, right? if he asks you about your ID card it's because you match some of the profiles he's been up to....right?
Neil Tennant has a great voice, Chris Lowe has great silence.

Whilst it's not something I'd choose if there were a referendum on it, I can't see the problem people have with ID cards. If Neil is quoted correctly there, then my respect for him has taken something of a knock, given this 'we can't live...' hissy fit.

Do you have something to hide Mr Tennant?

seriously.I've had police officers ask me for identification and quite frankly, I always found it kinda interesting.

I think that if Churchill had lived now, he would agree that ID-cards is a good system.

Is there actually another european country where ID card does not exist ? I guess in Scandinavia...but apart from that ?

I totally agree with Neil. I would refuse to show my ID card to a policeman if they asked for no reason. Now if I was caught speeding, that would be a different matter. And we have to pay for these cards that we don't want? Madness.

In Holland you just must have something with you that can identify you. You don't have to buy a special ID-card if you have already a passport or drivinglicense.
