EMI at the Beeb albums

Previously-unheard songs recorded for the BBC by EMI artists are to be made available for the first time.

The songs include a 1967 Pink Floyd radio session around Piper At The Gates Of Dawn and an acoustic version by Coldplay of Shiver recorded in 2000.

EMI has reached agreement with the BBC to release the songs on CD and online. It also includes sessions by The Beach Boys, David Bowie and Pet Shop Boys.

Start guessing the tracks!

I'm guessing one or more of the Peel Session tracks.

That's what I'd thought too, that'd make a great EP.

Maybe some live performances too? That Release-era gig they did (some of the songs ended up on 'I get along' CD2) would be nice, I've never heard it.

This link mentions a Bowie documentary, so the deal might not just cover music performances – maybe interviews as well ...? (I'm guessing that the R1 shows they hosted in the 90s as MP3s would be unlikely.)

The BBC were already doing something quite similar to this recently on http://www.spodtronic.com/ with their "In Concert" series. You could pay to stream various concerts from the BBC archive including PSB's BBC show on the Release tour as mentioned above by Panbaams.

I've always wondered why the BBC have never made more of the massive archive of sessions and live stuff that they have. They're sitting on an absolute goldmine!

The same reason the majority of their archive of TV programmes hasn't yet seen the day. Rights issues.
( I was on the BBC Archive beta before anyone mentions that and content was slim to say the least).

The Beeb's also recently announced that it's going to put every episode of every TV programme it has ever made on its website at some point in the future, so it's obviously really pushing its archive at the moment.
