Apple Iphone 3G

#1 Post by gregf »

I watched the video on the apple website last night about the upcoming 2nd
generation I-phone named I-phone 3G.

3G, GPS, and a standard headphone socket for those with good headphones.
(1st generation iphone had a proprietary socket).

The GPS is impressive. They demoed one application or "ap" as they are calling them
so that when you go to town, you can see all your friends nearby on the map. Idea
is it's easy for meet ups with friends you don't know are nearby.

There were tons of games and "aps". In fact there will be an online "apstore" like
the itunes store. So you just buy the aps straight thru the phone.

Will go on sale officially on 11th July 2008 in 64? countries. Price is outstanding with
8Gb model for US$199 and 16Gb for US$299. And those prices are fixed world wide.

Very impressive. No wonder Apple shares are over $700. :?

There is no one Iphone in Russia still.
I don't know why but... Apple lost many of potential cutomers.
People prefer Nokia and Samsung here.
I know that Iphone is not official in Russia.

I've loved mine for almost a year, but don't think I'll be upgrading soon- WiFi is how I use it mostly, wicked fast. Don't particularly need GPS as I don't get lost very often, it's a weird obsession for a lot of people- must have GPS! It's like people want their phones to be their brains to tell them where they are. God knows how anyone ever made their way without GPS in the last 2000 years, say.

And since PSB have made privacy in a surveillance society a pet issue, GPS also means that the authorities know where you are too. The iPhone 3g rollout had a visual of tracking someone down San Francisco's famously crooked twisty Lombard street. It was meant to be cool, I found it rather creepy, tho.

They really seem to want to push it in the UK- a higher rated plan and the phone is free, with way more text and voice allowances than on crappy AT&T here.

Must say, I do love the device. My brother was over with his newborn twins, and beaming the pics instantly to friends was lovely tonight. Effortless.

And what's not emphasized enough is that the iPhone isn't a phone, it really is the Internet in your pocket. Not some fakey cellphone version of the Web , the real thing, expandable and adjustable for viewing. This is huge, no Blackberry does this, sorry. Not even mentioning that it's an iPod too, with video that's absolutely crystal.

Cannot speak well of it enough. I pay about US$70 a month, which may seem high, but my dumb old cellphone was $50. It's absolutely worth the difference.
