Big Bang re-enactment

Tomorrow, a European team of scientists at a huge 27 km underground complex near Geneva will launch a 20-year, 8 € million project to re-enact the "Big Bang" to try to explain the origins of the universe and how it came to life. It's an incredible experiment that puts European science ahead of any other country...but as the excitment increases also the fear crawls among many. I trust our scientists and I think it will be a wonderful experiment that will, hopefully, change positively our lives. What are your thoughts?

I'd love to know how a little experiment like that is going to make a black hole big enough to swallow the earth! :lol:

Where do the over-zealous, religious f***wits get their ideas from? :roll:

I know, but unfortunately there are lots of people who know very little physics and many do not have any science basics.
I'm just disappointed the news aren't educating people on the greatest experiment of our century. :roll: But that's just my opinion.

well thats a little overthe top considering your reffering to it as a little experiment and the scientists say the goal is to re-enact the big bang. oh....that little event?

to me thats like someone hearing about the atom bomb before it was tested and then telling everyone to relax and not worry cause its just a bomb thats going to make an explosion.

me, I dont care, I trust the scientists.but I'm stocking up on supplies in my anti-blackhole/parallel universe concrete bunker just to play it safe.

Well, just remember over 50 countries (including Australia)
have put money and scientists into this project.
That's my taxes your taking credit for.:lol:

The TV news here is full of stories about it.
A good sign.

I really wish I could take personal credit for that! :D
I'm sure many other countries such as USA, Canada and Japan also invested large amounts of money in this, but it remains a European project of the CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research.
Having said that I think the whole world is more or less involved in such a huge project, so the whole world can take credit for it. I'm just happy that a European agency is carrying on a project. Many scientists of my country take their brains somewhere else where they can be funded properly for their research. For once I'm glad they stayed at home, that's all. Good to know Australian news is treating the experiment with respect. :up:

The point I was trying to make that, compared to the big-bang itself, it is just a little experiment and that nothing could seriously result from it that would threaten the planet.

It didn't even occurr to me that "the big count down" beginned on such and odd date: 10-09-08...I wonder if they planned it or was it just a coincidence? Anyways, everything went beyond expectations so that is a good sign. Stay tuned...

I haven't seen the news a lot lately, but my Mum was talking about this.. Wasn't this thing built to get close to the speed of light because with previous experiences, which were slower, some particles disappeared..? Or am I being too vague?
