Yeah, very lazy, like many of the so called UK music writers these days. Have you ever read Peter Robinsons pieces? They're even more frivolous, humourless and trivial.
Apparently we're due a synth fad this year...then there'll be another 19 years of dull guitar 'indie' rock. You wouldn't think it's the 21st century sometimes.

I wouldn't count on a real synth revival, they said the same thing around 2002 with Fischerspooner and Ladytron and that whole electroclash thing which never really got anywhere.
