(advanced) music editing / mixing software - your tip?

#1 Post by Tomas »

I haven't found an appropriate thread, so here's a new one of mine...

What kind of music editing / mixing software are you using or would you recommend to me if I want to try (or better said to play with trying) mixing... music?

I'd be interested in any tool - dummy-proof - that allows you to filter out unwanted sounds / tracks etc. from MP3/WAV, cut out the desired sound, then stick it together with another one, align the beat... If not a big fantasy...

I. e. I'd expect something more complex than a basic copy/paste mp3/wav editor, but still somewhat intuitive so that the machine takes the relevant part of the job, and it should be available at a reasonable price + demo.

Thanks for any hints. :)

I'm not sure that even exists, some kind of software capable of isolating any single instruments from a music track, later allowing you to mix them with other sounds.

SoundForge has a very good filter that is pretty good at nearly cancelling the voice from a song, though. FruityLoops and Ableton Live are two easy to use mixing/sequencing packages.

By the way, you forgot to mention what OS you're on (so it's probably Windows XP or Vista).
