Trevor Horn homophobic?
This was in the Holy Moly mail-out this week. I can't quite believe it but hey.....
You were dealing with this during the Reagan years when the AIDS crisis was exploding and the progressive attitude regarding gays started reversing. It must’ve been hard to contend with that while the music industry pushed you to be the next Mary Jane Girls.
Wendy and Lisa, nearly in unison: That’s exactly what they wanted.
Wendy: We couldn’t have been more opposite of that. We were just geeky musicians. We still are. We did a record 10, 11 years ago with Trevor Horn that was never released. We were hoping that we would have the next f*** Grace Jones “Slave to the Rhythm” extravaganza. We thought, “This is going to be genius! We’re going to be musician freaks and experiment.” And he, honest to god, wanted us to be the Spice Girls. My heart was broken.
Lisa: Not only that, but he was so homophobic. I hate to say it, but he wouldn’t even let us eat off of his silverware on Friday because he was Jewish. It turned into this nightmare. He and his wife, oh God, I don’t want to talk disparagingly about anybody, but it made us very uncomfortable.
Wendy: Our homosexuality became quite an issue for them.
That’s especially disturbing coming from the guy who produced Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Grace Jones and the Pet Shop Boys.
Wendy: And Marc Almond and ABC and t.A.T.u. You name it.
Lisa: He would come in and start talking, “Well, I asked my rabbi about homosexuality and my rabbi said it’s comparable to being born a mass murderer. You can be born a mass murderer, but if you practice mass murder it’s sinful.” I was like, “Okay, you can be born gay, but if you practice being gay, you might as well be a mass murderer?” Oh, thanks Trev. Let’s record this song now.

Before we all clamour to knock Trevor, remember that his wife is very ill in hospital with a coma at the moment. Of course I cannot abide homophobia but this doesn't not chime with the man who produced 'Relax'!

Re: Trevor Horn homophobic?
given trevors history,I take what they say with a grain of salt. I'm sure these girls are major drama queens and they are most likely taking something that was said in a sort of gallows humor kind of way and years later after a falling out are turning it into something literal.
I've gotten so comfortable around my girlfriends brother being an atheist that sometimes whenever he says something to sort of make fun of me in a kiding way over religion I would jokingly respond tell him "unbeliever!"your going to hell" even though I dont believe so.
I'm sure if I dumped his sister and he wanted to be a dick years later he could in fact say I said he was going to hell because quite frankly.... I did say it. but people wouldnt see the context.

So what? Nobody would mind if he knocked Christianity. But if one dares disagree on the gay lifestyle because of their religious views, they're ostracized. Fact is the Bible condemns it and if Trevor is Jewish and it goes against his faith, so be it. Does everybody have to approve of everybody's lifestyle? Grow up already and drop this PC thought police!

Well, people changed sometimes. He may have had those views back then. Who knows, however it's not right for others to try to destroy someone's elses career, reputation, especially when it seems like they have changed or trying to be a better person.

I like your style alig. we had some beauty pagent girl basically get the shaft because she was given a question that asked for her opinion on gay marriage but unknown to her there was only 1 correct opinion.
lets just say she didnt voice it an she was basically ripped apart and called a b*tch after the fact by the guy who asked her the question on his blog site, some weird looking dude named perez or something. you know, the type of guy that refers to other people as "girlfriend"

Funnily enough God was a practising mass murderer. What would Trev's rabbi say?alig wrote:So what? Nobody would mind if he knocked Christianity. The Bible supports slavery. Should we approve of that?alig wrote:Fact is the Bible condemns it and if Trevor is Jewish and it goes against his faith, so be it. Does everybody have to approve of everybody's lifestyle?
You might want to apply your faith defense to radical Islam and see where that gets you.

Re: Trevor Horn homophobic?
I think that if he indeed has a problem with homosexuality then it's actually really big of him to still have produced so many gay artists. That he's cabable of putting those things aside when focusing on work is a good example for others.
What many don't seem to understand is that there's a difference between homophobia and to disapprove of a lifestyle out of respect for the bible or some other authority. Homophopia is immature, self-centered, and stems from fear. The other thing is a different matter. Of course there are many religious homophobics, but the same intolerance can be found in many gay people, and it's not in any way prettier.

Honestly? This sounds like a load of slanderous claptrap from two women who clearly have an axe to grind for other reasons.
I suspect context is missing here, and if I was Trevor I'd be very angry about being portrayed this way. Very angry.
And everything about tonight feels right and so young
And anything I'd want to say out loud will be sung
It's in the music...

I don't even know who Wendy and Lisa are. Should I?
I doubt Trevor Horn would have produced so many gay acts if he indeed has those problems with homophobia.

Re: Trevor Horn homophobic?
I find it hard to imagine that Trevor Horn could be homophobic and yet produce stuff for mentioned artists like FGTH, Grace Jones and PSB. Horn is a rich guy... there was no financial need for him to produce a PSB album in 2006. Back in 1988, PSB were pretty much in the closet, but in 2006 there was little doubt left about their sexual orientation.

Re: Trevor Horn homophobic?
This is completely ridiculous. If Horn were homophobic some of the artists he had worked with on more than one occasion would have said something surely. What about all those artists who performed at his Wembley tribute show? Why would a homophobic person be associated so openly with "Relax" in 1983? I suspect if he said some of those things to Wendy & Lisa we are hearing about it out of context - some people say things to get a rise (take the mickey) out of others.
