Movies are not shot in PAL. Movies are shot on film, which is 24 frames per second. Speed that up by 4% and you've got PAL's 25 frames per second.

Perhaps they have better ways of dealing with this now, but back when ICCH was issued on LD, yes, that was the case. And it's not just Hollywood productions, it's anything shot on film. Unlike TV, film is 24 frames per second around the world.

Fortunately, very few people notice.

Here I was wondering if I could ever draw as fast as Clint Eastwood...

Just 4%, huh?

OK, I get now why a PAL copy would be 4 percent faster. Why then is my NTSC copy slower? Sorry I'm being slow with this. Bad with the "maths" as they say in the UK
And tryin' to figure out what happened to 'Germaine Propaine'

The NTSC version should be at the same speed as the original film.

Right, that's what I'm thinking, but this copy is slow, as has been discussed, so I guess there is still not an answer for that? Or am I missing something? Forgive me if I am, feel like an idiot on this.

It really sounds like there's something wrong with your ICHH disc. Having lived in both the US and Australia, I've amassed a quantity of movies in both PAL and NTSC (some of them are the same), and while the difference is noticeable, none of my NTSC movies "plays like a slow tape". That suggests it's another problem unrelated to PAL slowdown.
And everything about tonight feels right and so young
And anything I'd want to say out loud will be sung
It's in the music...

I've talked to my brother about this issue (he is a big tech and laserdisc fan) and he says it has to be a conversion/pressing issue. That back in the late 80s this happened on occassion and quality control wasn't as high as it is with DVD's now.

The explanation about the framerate conversions is right, and this happened time ago (it´s not usual on this days) but what is really happening here is that the asian-PAL LD runs at a good speed, if you compare the movie audio with the CD there is no audible difference, but the US-NTSC LD is noticeably slower than the music we all know (well, not SOOOO slow, but you can hear the difference very easy). Really strange!..and mono audio :(
This is not my signature.

Would anyone like to buy my slow speed NTSC LD? It's a bit to, um, slow for me.

I remember seeing awhile ago a cassette of the soundtrack, was that ever released on CD?

Hello. I bought a Japanese laserdisc "It couldn't happen here". Throughout the film there are Japanese subtitles, which seems to be impossible to turn off. They really can not be disabled?
