Paul McCartney's PETA video...

#1 Post by Lucy »

"If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be vegetarian."

It's hard to watch, but everyone who eats meat should see what goes on.
Are there any vegetarians on here? Or vegans?

I don't think that FirthofForth eats much meat.

I'd rather not watch the video - I don't really want to see what is in it. I am vegetarian. I gave red meat up 23 years ago, then poultry a few years after that and finally fish about 10 years ago, I now eat nothing that involved an animal dying in it's creation.

how about someone who has had paint splashed on their expensive fur coat and dress make a video showing the hassle it took to send the thing to the cleaners and get it cleaned off and fixed because some young weird looking narcissist females who dont shave their legs want to feel they are a part of some cause so they can define themselves.

:?
serves them right for walking about wearing a dead animal in the first place.
you can get fake fur, that looks exactly the same..why would someone actually want to wear real fur? there's no actual need for it, so it's just for vanity reasons. And as if everyone who opposes fur is how you described them.

wearing fur is a personal choice. you should be able to wear what you want without fear of a paint attack.

there are animal products in a range of products. at some point they might get to you should you fall on the wrong side of what they deam "wearing a dead animal."

Oh come on. If Elton's never been paint-bombed for wearing a dead animal, it's fair game.

Some people do go a bit far with protesting, but that doesnt mean everyone is like that.
Some people see leather as a by-product from the cow being killed for meat, but fur isn't. The animal is killed specifically for it's skin, nothing else.

Thats great. :)
What about cheese - some cheeses contain rennet which is from the lining of an animals stomach..
I'm considering giving up all dairy, I watched a video about dairy farming and it really put me off, it was cruel. Veal is also a by-product of milk production. Naturally a cow produces 5 litres a day but in dairy farms they're pumped full of God knows what and produce 45/50 a day. :?
Soy milk has alot of health benefits, e.g. lower in saturated fat.
There are surprisingly alot of supermarket products that are vegan, things you wouldnt think of.
I'm quite looking forward to doing some vegan cooking over the summer, there are so many vegan cookbooks!

I'm not going to comment on the morality of eating meat here but I'd just like to point out that almost nothing we eat is natural. The vast majority of crops and farm animals have been selectively bred by us over the generations to provide us with food. Grasses to produce bigger grains, root vegetables to produce bigger roots, fruit trees to produce bigger more tasty fruit, animals to be more docile and to produce more meat and more milk... They are very much changed from the wild plants and animals from which they were bred, and many of them would have little to no chance of survival if left to their own devices in true nature.

This is why I have difficulty understanding many of the objections raised to GM foods. The stuff we eat has already been manipulated by us to be very far from its natural state. What's wrong with doing future manipulations in a more scientific manner?
We are star stuff which has taken its destiny into its own hands. The loom of time and space works the most astonishing transformations of matter. We are a way for the universe to know itself.

I don't understand the objections to GM foods. I can understand some worries based on the precautionary principle but the arguments against it don't seem to be backed by any evidence.

everynow and then I tell myself I would like to at healthy and I talked my girlfriend into going to eat at mobys vegetarian restaurant in NYC awhile ago when we we're there and.....it had closed.
so we ended up at peter lugers steakhouse where we had steak and sirloin pieces wrapped in bacon.

so that unfortuantly is my 1 trying to eat healthy story.
