Famous?....Big let down!

#1 Post by AndyPSB »

Have any of you out there met one of your idols (not the Boys, obviously) only to be put off by either how they behaved or something they said?

Cheers

Andy.

I brought two CDs to be signed at the erasure signing in 2003 in Chicago. Andy Bell just drank his water at me and they refused to sign more than one CD. It turns out I somehow left without getting back my other CD! Hope you are enjoying your Run To The Sun Maxi bitches!!
And tryin' to figure out what happened to 'Germaine Propaine'
"He couldn't have fell off that hard" Ain't no way
"What happened to the way you was rappin' when you was scandalous
That Canibus turned into a television evangelist"
Plus he raps with his regular voice [BOOSH! BOOSH!]
[BOOSH! BOOSH!] (What was that?) Pet Shop Boys

I view "famous people" as ordinary people who just happen to be in the limelight and their "job" is one of Pop Star, Actor, Film Star etc.

Dont know why I should treat them any different to any old Joe Soap and therefore never get excited nor let down if I should meet or see any of them.

I met Jimmy Savile with my Grandad at a beauty spot near where I live when I was 4 or 5. My Grandad asked for his autograph, but Jimmy Savile wanted £50 for it.

Miserable old c***.

My aunt met Lewis Collins once, in Manchester, and said he was an arsehole.

The wife was on the same flight as Robbie Williams, even in the same exec cabin and on asking for his autograph, he was really nasty to her. She wasn't that fussed for him prior to this and has no time for him at all now.

I've had pretty good experiences with the famous people I've 'met' over the years. I can still remember Terry Wogan signing an autograph for me at the airport about thirty years ago, Kevin Moran signed my football book in a Dublin shopping centre about twenty years ago, as did various Liverpool players in the 1980s. Gordon Banks waved back at me from his taxi as we overtook him. :eh: Hmm, it's mostly footballers really, isn't it? I did once stalk Louise from Eternal at an airport. Erm, Buzz Aldrin came to my school..... :shifty:

To be honest I wouldn't want to meet my heroes because they can only disappoint you.

Saw Louise on my last visit to Liverpool in 97ish. She was in a clothes shop, wade something or other. Damn she looked good, didnt have the balls to say hi.

You should have said, "Hi I'm John Leslie, fancy a good time?"

I tend to stay away from them to be honest. Like Patrick said, it can all end it tears. I've never been on the wrong end of anyone's strop but i've been told by a few people that Alex Higgins was the biggest t*** going. He even swore at a mate of mine and he was with his 7 year old son

The nicest personality i've met is Jimmy White. Top sportsman. Gazza and Gary Lineker were also very polite. I wont bore you all again with my snog with Phillipa Forrester.

On that bombshell, it's off to the pervo thread....

Dad took me and some mates to see Chelsea play Forest at Stamford Bridge in September 1989 and Bobby Robson refused to give us his autograph, couldn't believe it that the England manager could do that to a bunch of kids and I remember it affected me a bit. Never thought a lot of him after that of course.

As for nice celebs, well Mark Hughes was always my hero and I used to go to watch Chelsea train from time to time for a chat and he gave me a signed shirt once! That was pretty special and it's so nice when your role model doesn't let you down. Dinner with Eric a few month's back was also pretty special but I won't go into that.
