Sadly, today my Grandma's dog was put to sleep. She lived for 17 years, and believed it was the right thing to do as she was suffering with arthritis, blindness and deafness, and a whole lot of other complications.
Sad I am for mourning, but should she have been left to die naturally or was being put to sleep the best option?
The best way is to have her put to 'sleep' To keep a pet alive that is suffering can be selfish. I know it's hard because a pet is a member of the family. It would be cruel to keep her alive when the dog hasn't any quality of life anymore.
If your grans pet wasn't put to sleep, all the good times could have been overshadowed by guilt because she would be putting the dog through pointless suffering. Your gran did the right thing.
17 is really old for a dog and almost cruel to keep it alive with so many problems

definitely the best thing to do... If a creature is in pain and there's no hope of recovery... why let it suffer needlessly?
It's the hardest decision, but the best in my opinion.
As Undertaker said, it can be selfish to keep it alive.

17 years old! A good age if thats human years the dog would be around 117 in doggy years!
Always sad when a loved pet gets sick, even worse to make a decision to part with it! But as no animal can really tell you how it is suffering, it is for the better if a human can show kindness and give the loved pet a dignified departure!

I have a problem now like you,I have a dog with 18 YEARS OLD!!!!!!..today my sister and me take the dog to the doctor and he was impressed how is the dog...she was three days very sad and lazy and we was very worried,my dog have :heart problems,arthritis,some littles tumours and cataract.
My dog is with us from i was only 7 years old I cant imagine my life witouth her and when I look her I feel very sad,but I know one day she will die because she is really old but is very difficult
