On the streets of Barcelona right now, protesting the crimes committed by Spanish police last Sunday against peaceful citizens who wanted to vote. Amazing how this tune keeps strong in popular culture. Now it's a political protest song.

Protesters have also been singing "I'm not scared" in catalan language, albeit with a different tune.

Remember when Neil sings about history and revolutions?

Strictly on topic.

In Italy it's become a classic football chant for several teams, mainly Juventus and Napoli. Don't know if Barcelona supporters adopted it as well, but it seems so.

Yes, supporters of many spanish teams have used it here too. But this is the first time I hear it at a demonstration.

It's your second attempt to get into politics in order to get some support and put this topic into discussion. I'm Spanish and I have a very different opinion about the sentence you have said.

Don't use this PSB forum for this.

If you are referring to me, my story with nickname goes back to early 2000s. He is a known troll on spanish IRC and forums. We both starred in many ridiculous internet wars, including this forum. I'm sure the mods will appreciate if we don't start another flame war. You are really too quick to judge, Ziggy. Don't feed the troll.

I've started these two threads (I assume this one will be moved soon to the invisible forum, too) because fascism is on the rise again in Spain and I want everyone I can to be aware of it. Civil and human rights were violated here last Sunday. Our basic freedom is at stake. We wanted to vote peacefully but they came and they attacked us. Regular people. Everywhere in Catalonia. They even used forbidden ammo against us. Peaceful people who wanted to vote. I don't care about the rest, because here the worst is yet to come. Spanish media masks what really happened, even when international media like CNN or the BBC condemned this shame, so I don't really blame nickname. Fascism has always been tacitly accepted in Spain after the dictatorship ended and they are in the army, the courts, and government. They just don't hide what they are anymore.

In case you haven't seen what happened, take a seat. This is Europe 2017:

If you watch the speech the spanish King (supreme leader of the army) gave last night on the link below, you will see in the background the image of Carlos III who is handling a stick (like the cops), who forbid catalan, basque and galician language and culture 3 centuries ago:

I've never wanted a war with you. You have a political obsession and you are very influenced because of that.

I told you once and I tell you again. I've never wanted a war with you but you insisted on it. Forget me.

What happened in Catalonia is an utter disgrace and is totally unacceptable. At least here in Britain we had our right to a vote on EU membership and seeing how the EU has reacted to not just the current situation in Catalonia (not Spain) as well as the disgusting way they are conducting themselves in Brexit negotiations just proves what a scary and undemocratic world we are living.

I hope that Catalonia gets its full independence and that justice is served against the brutal Spanish regime. It seems that some countries don't learn by history which seems to be repeating itself over and over with a group of people acting like fascists using the excuse that they are actually fighting against them.

I believe democracy and the will of the people will always win in the end though, let's just hope with as little harm as possible inflicted along the way but that's up to them not us.

Good luck with Independence, I have had many friends form Catalonia who are incredibly passionate about it and I see no reason whatsoever why democratic referendums on the matter shouldn't be fully respected and put into place.

Comparing this referendum to Brexit is false. The British Government approved a referendum on Brexit. In the case of Spain, the Spanish Government didn’t. Chalk and cheese.

(and I’m not on either side of the actual debate)

True, it's not Brexit but certainly is something the Catalonian people have wanted for a very long time and should have every right to a fair and democratic vote. The fact you have made the point that it is the Spanish government that haven't approved the referendum sort of speaks for itself really. Doesn't take much of a history lesson to understand that this is quite a deep rooted situation too.

Good that you know the feelings of Catalonian people, do you know something about the feelings of the other half of Catalonian people and the rest of Spain? The govern of Catalonia said before the horrible event on the 1st of October that they will not listen to Spanish justice or laws anymore and asked people for desobediencia. They wanted this outcome and they knew police had the order to stop the illegal referendum. Apart from that the hate and hypocrisy of most of them have no limits. They say Spanish government is oppressing them when they're the richest autonomous region in spain and has more autonomy than any other region. The Barcelona fans have been mocking and whistling the king, the national anthem and flag for ages in the Spanish cup, is it a hate crime or just opinion freedom? No one in Barça has ever claimed respect for Spanish people, but now even some of Piqué's mates in the national team are protecting him because he is treated the same way as he was inclined to defend sedition. Please read all news and have all points of view in mind before you decide what side you are on. What a feel as Spaniard is a deep sadness and we also need comprehension. This world is changing for the worse when nationalisms rise to split countries or unions and people vote Trump. Sadness and devastation, pray for our kids to be safe in this changing world.
